moreBackground : This study aims to determine the level of lead in semen, measuring sperm motility,
identify the factors that influence the level of lead in semen and sperm motility, and to analyze the
relationship between sperm motility and concentration of Pb in semen, with consecutive sampling
technique sampling. Analysis of sperm motility and interviews conducted in the laboratory biology
FK. Sriwijaya University of Palembang. Meanwhile, the measurement of lead content in the semen
made in the laboratory affiliated of the Department of Chemistry, Indonesia University.
Method: In the study there were 39 respondents, consisting of 20 respondents with a motility of
sperm is not good, and 19 respondents with sperm that has good motility. Levels of Pb in semen has
less than a value range up to 266,7 µg/dl with an average of 56,69 µg/dl.
Results: Results of correlation between the motility of the level of lead in semen showing the value
of r=0,184, while the value of significance 0,262, which means that no significant relationship. T
test results, it was found that p value=0,052, which means there is no significant difference in the
average level of lead in semen among respondents who either motility with motility is not good. The
result of multiple linear regression analysis, variables associated with the number of cigarette Pb
levels in semen. The number of spermatozoa associated negatively to level of lead in semen. While
the multiple logistic regression analysis, the number of cigarette and alcohol consumption related to
the level of lead in semen. The result of multiple linear regression analysis on variables associated
with nutritional obtained motility. While the results of logistic regression analysis, variables and the
amount of cigarette smoking associated with motility.
Conclussion: The results of analysis between the motility of the level of lead in semen is not a
significant correlation between both variables. Thus considered, the highest concentration (266,7
µg/dl) is, not yet strong influence on sperm motility. So we need more research on Pb levels in a
more concrete effect on sperm motility in populations exposed to higher Pb levels. In addition, the
need also further research into the effects of total cigarette consumption on sperm motility.
