Studies on party institutionalisation commonly argue that parties with personalist leadership and weak organisation are unlikely to remain in power beyond leadership succession. In other words, these parties will rarely attain their own institutionalisation. From this perspective, the recent Italian political reality represents a conundrum. Three parties of this type—Northern League; Forza Italia; Italy of Values—confronted significant resignation issues concerning their leaders, but only the League, contrary to the theory, made a decisive step toward institutionalisation by removing its founding father and remaining an actor with national blackmail potential. This article addresses this challenge and provides a solution to this conundrum. In particular, this article demonstrates that an approach that considers both party factors and critical events is necessary to fully account for the variance of outcomes and, more generally, for party change

Political leadership is a signifiant research problem in contemporary political science. research into the most important politicians has become increasingly vital. Presidents, Prime Ministers, and party leaders have been the center of attention of scholars as well as the media. Scholarly and journalistic analyses have dealt with more and more sides concerning the most inflential political posts. In their exposition the notion of the political leadership has been applied.
The following study is going to introduce to the issue of the political leadership. Firstly it focuses on the question of teaching the political leadership as a course at polish institutions of higher education. Secondly it focalizes on the elucidation of major issues such as study area, notion and typology in order to provide information about fundamental theoretical dilemma as well as the examples of some aspects connected with the presidential leadership, prime minister leadership and party leadership.

The aim of the paper is to show tendency among researches to analysis party leadership. Overview of articles published in Party Politics help to underline key aspects of this subject. Since 1995 to 2010 only 17 articles were related to party leadership. It is 3.5 percent from 487 articles. The studies on party leadership allow us to indicate five approaches: supporters, structure of political parties, leadership change, leadership selection, leadership and elections. We can conclude that the periodical contains information about a wide variety of the subject. These articles are a useful source of details about party leadership
