Aim and objective: The primary aim of the study is to formulate, standardize and evaluate the polyherbal (Murraya koenigii, Zingiber officinale,n Syzygium cumini, Phyllanthus emblica, Moringa oleifera, Azadirachta indica, Citrous limon) solid dosage form for systemic diseases. Methodology: The polyherbal solid, Dosage form was formulated by filling the polyherbal powder mixture into the hard gelatin capsules, standardized as per WHO guidelines of quality standardization. It was evaluated for antioxidant parameters (DPPH and ABTS assays) and Antimicrobial activity. Results: Pharmaceutical parameters i.e. weight variation; moisture analysis and drug content are within I.P limit. Dissolution studies reveal that the release of maximum drugs (91%) at 120 minutes. The DPPH assay and ABTS assay activity of the polyherbal extract is found to be close to the standard drugs. Antimicrobial activity of polyherbal extract showed zone of inhibition 34mm for E-coli and 12 mm for Aspergillus Niger. The polyherbal drugs are less effective against rest of the microorganisms.

Background: Day by day dependency of people is rising on herbal or Ayurvedic
formulation not only for chronic ailments but also for number of acute problems. Aim: The study
was aimed for Formulation and evaluation of hair care poly herbal powder shampoo. Methods: This
herbal shampoo was formulated using natural ingredients, with proven efficacy of hair care
preparation. The combination of several such ingredients of herbal origin has made it possible to
secure highly effective dry powder shampoo. The formulation at laboratory scale was done and
evaluated for number of parameters like organoleptic properties, particle size, flow property, pH,
physical properties, cleaning efficiency, wetting time, foaming tendency, solid content and stability,
to ensure its safety and efficacy. Results: The prepared herbal shampoo powder formulation was
well comparable to the market shampoos in many parameters. The flow property of powder was good
with pH value within the skin pH range. The powder shampoo was found to be non irritant to skin
with excellent foaming tendency. The cleaning action and wetting time of shampoo was found to be
30.11 % and 48 s. The shampoo was found to be stable with good physical properties. Our data
suggests that, prepared herbal shampoo powder could be recommended as a choice product in cost
effective hair care cosmetics. Conclusion: Hence we concluded that the formulation of polyhedral
shampoo powder is effective in reducing dandruff without irritation, less adverse effect and better
conditioning effect.

Polyherbal formulation has been used all around the world due to its medicinal and therapeutic application. It has also known as polyherbal therapy or herb-herb combination. This article enlists some commercial and non-commercial polyherbal formulation all around the world. The authors have focused last six years of Publications on Polyherbal formulation in different countries and found that India have topped among the number of publications on polyherbal formulation followed by Nigeria, South Korea, Pakistan and Bangladesh. List of other countries also mentioned on scientific contribution of polyherbal therapy. The authors have mentioned list of publications on polyherbal formulation in the treatment of different diseases are based on pharmacological activity in the year 2015 and found that most polyherbal formulation found in the treatment of diabetes followed by an antioxidant, Hepatoprotective, Anti-inflammatory and anxiety disorder.

With the increasing misuse of antibiotics over the past 6 decades against conventional antimicrobial agents is on increasing therefore, it is now contemporary to search some safe and effective alternative. Keeping this view in mind the present investigation was carried out to examine the ethanolic extract of polyherbal compound (Bharangyadi compound) for its phytochemical components and in-vitro antibacterial and antifungal activity. The phytochemical tests were carried out by using standard methods of analysis. Presence of alkaloids, anthraquinones, carbohydrates, flavonoids, saponins and tannins were revealed by the analysis. The antimicrobial activity of the plant extract was assayed against Escherichia coli ATCC 25922, Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27893, Salmonella typhi MTCC 3216, Aeromonas hydrophila ATCC 7966,  Escherichia coli ATCC 35218, Shigella flexineri ATCC 12022, Bacillus subtilis, Plesiomonas shigelloides ATCC 14029 (Gram-negative), Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25323 (Gram-positive) and Candida albicans ATCC 90028,Candida krusei ATCC 6258, Candida tropicalis ATCC 750, Candida parapsilosis ATCC 22019 using the disc diffusion and micro dilution techniques. The result showed the MIC of 12.5 mg/ml against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Candida species and 10-20 mg/ml against remaining bacteria tested. The study revealed that the extracts possessed antibacterial and antifungal activity in a dose dependent manner. Thus use of this herbal preparation in the treatment of respiratory tract infections may be justified.

Ayurvedic literature finds mention of various plants used in skin care. Oil extracts of crude drugs are used in varied skin conditions and to nourish and revitalize the skin. However, oils for topical use are not aesthetically appealing. Hence, there is a need for a consumer friendly topical formulation containing oil extracts. In this study, an attempt has been made to investigate the therapeutic properties of a novel emulsion formulation. An oil extract containing Rubia cordifolia, Glycyrrhiza glabra and Symplocos racemosa was prepared. The mentioned plants have antiseptic, skin soothing and anti-inflammatory properties. The oil extract in this study forms the oil phase for the formulation of the emulsion system. Creams are a carrier system for oily extracts due to their numerous advantages like aesthetic appeal, better efficacy, stability and appearance. The formulation was evaluated for various stability indicating parameters, skin irritation and wound healing activity in vivo by excision wound healing model on rats. The formulations of herbal oil into an emulsion based system proved to be stable and non irritant. Formulation that contained 20% oil extract exhibited remarkable wound contraction proving its efficacy as a topical formulation beneficial in minor skin conditions.

Context: Diabetes mellitus is a condition, which is characterized by persistent hyperglycemia, abnormal functioning of insulin and difficulty in the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and proteins. Antidiabetic medicines of herbal origin are widely consumed in Pakistan. Therefore, there was a need to generate data on antidiabetic herbal formulations manufactured and marketed in Pakistan. Aims: To develop a list of Pakistani manufactured antidiabetic herbal products and the most common herbal ingredients found in them. Methods: Antidiabetic herbal formulations were collected from the renowned herbal stores of Karachi, Pakistan, and their ingredients were checked. The most common herbal ingredients found in them were determined, and the possible constituents responsible for the antidiabetic action of these herbs were discovered. Results: A total of 15 herbal antidiabetic products were collected from the herbal stores. The most common herbs found in them include Syzygium cumini, Gymnemma sylvestre, Aloe vera, Nigella sativa, Acacia nilotica, Commiphora myrrha, Portulaca oleracea, Punica granatum, Rhus coriaria, Coriandrum sativum, Trigonella foenum-graecum, Bambusa bambos, Holarrhena antidysenterica, Swertia changii, Curcuma longa and Rumex vesicarius. The constituents responsible for antidiabetic activity include alkaloids, polysaccharides, glycosides, secoiridoid, phenolic acids, flavonoids, terpenoids, saponins and volatile oil. Conclusions: The herbs incorporated in these formulations have proven antidiabetic effects; therefore, these formulations can produce significant results in the management of diabetes. More research on each of these formulations is needed to confirm the potency of all these herbal products.

In this study we developed and evaluated four polyherbal formulations (EXR-HF 1, EXR-HF 2, EXR-HF 3 and EXR-HF 4) comprising of varying proportions of the aqueous extracts of Anogeissus leiocarpus, Alchornea cordifolia, Persea americana and Tamarindus indica leaves on indomethacin, ethanol and histamine ulcer models with the aim of investigating the anti-ulcer potentials of the formulations and also to identify the combination ratio with the highest potency. The result of the study showed that the polyherbal formulations displayed gastroprotective activity as demonstrated by significant (P< 0.05) inhibition of the formation of ulcers induced through the three different ulcer models. Furthermore, it was observed that among the polyherbal formulations, EXR-HF 4 exhibited the highest potency against ulcer. It was concluded that EXR-HF 4 can be used as an alternative to the orthodox anti-ulcer drugs or as an add-on therapy.

The Central nervous system activity of Mallotus phillipensis was assessed in rats taking into consideration the effect on the spontaneous and forced motor activity. The leaves of the plant collected locally were extracted using methanol and water. The phytochemical analysis of various extracts was done using standard techniques. The central nervous system activity of the extract at 250 mg/kg body weight orally was assessed based on the effect on general behavioral pattern and the effect on spontaneous and forced motor activity using digital photoactameter, Rota rod apparatus respectively and compared with diazepam @ 1 mg/kg. The acute oral toxicity of the extract was assessed in rats at limit dose of 2000 mg/kg. Phytochemical analysis revealed the presence of phenolics, alkaloids, glycosides, tannins, terpenes and flavonoids in the extract. The extract in general reduced the spontaneous activity, alertness and awareness, but the effect was not as pronounced as that of diazepam. The forced motor and spontaneous motor activities were depressed better than diazepam and aqueous extract. From the study it could be concluded that the methanolic extract of M. philippensis at 250 mg/kg B.W. was safe depressant of the CNS.

The polyherbal formulations were found to be rich in alkaloids, flavanoids, phenolics, steroids and terpenoids
but saponins were present in SJT-ONC-1. The formulations was quantitatively estimated for all the
phytoconstituents. The total phenolic content of SJT-ONC-1 was found to be 3.50 % w/w; total flavanoid
content, 2.59 % w/w; total alkaloidal content,0.66 %w/w; total tannin content 5.9 %w/w. To achieve the best
resolution of marker compounds, Lapachol (Rf : 0.74 ), Bacalein (Rf : 0.40) and Lupeol (Rf : 0.34) in SJTONC-
1, specific solvent system i.e. Hexane: ethyl acetate: methanol: glacial acetic acid (7:2:1:0.4) was
developed through TLC study.HPTLC methods were developed for estimation of Lapachol, Bacalein and
Lupeol in SJT-ONC-1, Lapachol, Bacalein and Lupeol were estimated as 0.707, 1.992 and 1.886 % w/w
respectively in the SJT-ONC-1

In this study the antidiabetic effect of a polyherbal formulation-ZPC was investigated in Wistar rats. Diabetes was induced by intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin at a dose of 50 mg/kg. Rats having Fasting Blood Sugar (FBS) level above 250 mg/dl after 72 hrs were considered diabetic and used for the studies. Five rats served as non-diabetic control (Group 1) while twenty diabetic rats were randomized into 4 groups of 5 rats each. The four groups (Groups 2,3,4 and 5) received 1ml (diabetic control), 250 mg/kg chlorpropamide and ZPC at doses of 250 and 500mg/kg respectively for 28 days. During the treatment period, the FBS and bodyweight of rats were monitored weekly and on day 28, the rats were euthanized and blood samples collected for serum lipid profile analysis. Background: Mahasudarshan Churna (MC) is a polyherbal Ayurvedic medicine that is employed in fever (especially chronic type), cold and malaria, improvement of digestion and appetite, removes toxins from the blood, boosts immunity and protects against common bacterial infections. Methods: Validation and quantification of oleanolic acid (OA), ursolic acid (UA), mangiferin (M), gallic acid (GA), quercetin (Q) and curcumin (C) in commercial MC formulations by HPTLC method. Mobile phase, hexane: ethyl acetate: acetone (16.4: 3.6: 0.2, v/v) was used for the separation of OA and UA; ethyl acetate: glacial acetic acid: formic acid: water (20: 2.2: 2.2: 5.2 v/v) for the development of M; and toluene: ethyl acetate: formic acid (13.5: 9: 0.6 v/v) for the separation of GA, Q and C in crude sample extracts. Visualization and scanning were performed at λ = 530 nm for OA and UA, at λ = 254 nm for M and at λ = 366 nm for GA, Q and C. In addition, HPLC-PDA analysis was used to confirm the HPTLC results.

Objective:  To  study  the  abortifacient  potential  of  the  Siddha
polyherbal formulation Maavilingathy Mathirai in Wistar Albino rats.
Materials and Methods: Male and Female albino rats of Wistar
strain weighing about 120-200 gm in the ratio of 1:2 were caged.
Pregnancy was confirmed and the rats were divided into three groups
of six animals each and the rats were administered the drug through
gastric  gavage  from  6
th
to  15
th
day  of  pregnancy.  The  3  groups  of
animals were administered 2ml/kg of CMC, 100 mg/kg, 200mg/kg of
MLM for 10 days. The animals were laparotomised on 19th day of
pregnancy and the uterine horns were subjected for the examination
of  the  live  and  dead  fetuses,  implantation  sites,  resorptions.  The
serum was separated and let down into a vial and then and subjected
to ELISA method for the assessment for LH, Estradiol, FSH and
Progesterone.
Results and Discussion: The MLM 100 and MLM 200 reduced the
no. of implants in the uterus significantly. The percentage of abortion
calculated revealed that it was 34% at the dose level of 100mg/kg and
69% at the dose of 200mg/kg  and a significant abortifacient effect
indicating  the  reduction  of  the  number  of  viable  fetuses.FSH
hormone level is highly significant (p<0.01) at both the dose levels of
MLM100, 200mg/kg. The results showed significant decrease in LH
at  a  dose  level  0f  100mg/kg  and  highly  significant  decrease  at  the
dose level of MLM200mg/kg. Estradiol hormone is highly significant
(p<0.01)  at  both  the  dose  levels  of  MLM100,  200mg/kg.
Progesterone hormone is also highly significant (p<0.01) at both the
dose levels of MLM100, 200mg/kg. The reduction in the level of
hormones proved to be the prime reason for abortifacient activity.

Context: In Iran, conventional production methods of herbal oils are widely used by local practitioners. Administration of oils is rooted in traditional knowledge with a history of more than 3000 years. Scientific evaluation of these historical documents can be valuable for finding new potential use in current medicine. Objective: The current study (i) compiled an inventory of herbal oils used in ancient and medieval Persia and (ii) compared the preparation methods and therapeutic applications of ancient times to current findings of medicinal properties in the same plant species. Materials and methods: Information on oils, preparation methods and related clinical administration was obtained from ancient Persian documents and selected manuscripts describing traditional Persian medicine. Moreover, we investigated the efficacy of medicinal plant species used for herbal oils through a search of the PubMed, Scopus and Google Scholar databases. Results: In Iran, the application of medicinal oils date back to ancient times. In medieval Persian documents, 51 medicinal oils produced from 31 plant species, along with specific preparation methods, were identified. Flowers, fruits and leaves were most often used. Herbal oils have been traditionally administered via oral, topical and nasal routes for gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, and neural diseases, respectively. According to current investigations, most of the cited medicinal plant species were used for their anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. Conclusions: Medicinal oils are currently available in Iranian medicinal plant markets and are prepared using traditional procedures for desirable clinical outcomes. Other than historical clarification, the present study provides data on clinical applications of the oils that should lead to future opportunities to investigate their potential medicinal use.

The polyherbal formulation also produced a significant (p<0.05) reduction in total cholesterol, triglycerides and LDL concentration with a corresponding significant (p<0.05) increase in HDL concentration compared to diabetic control. It was concluded that, ZPC might serve as a good alternative or as an adjunct to the oral hypoglycaemic agents in the management of diabetes.

The hypercoagulability, thromboembolic and endothelial complications associated with hemoglobinopathies often results in vascular blockage and occasionally death; which has, therefore, become a challenge to the physician over time. This study aimed at evaluating the protective effects of a polyherbal formulation on endothelial dysfunction, venous thrombosis, coagulation indices; D-dimer and inflammation using 2-butoxyethanol (2BE)-induced experimental model of thrombosis and vaso-occlusive disorders in female albino rats. Forty-two (42) healthy twelve-week old female albino rats were randomly selected for this study and divided into six groups, the rats were administered 2.5mL/kg of 2-BE p.o. and 1mL/Kg of 100mg/mL polyherbal formula for 15 days respectively pre-and post-2-BE administration. The levels of coagulation indices, D-dimer and inflammation marker were thereafter evaluated. Histological assessment of the liver was used to evaluate the expression of microvascular occlusion and ischemia. Polyherbal formulation treatment significantly (p<0.05) reduced circulating D-dimer and C-reactive protein levels, as well as the platelet dyscrasias, associated endothelial dysfunction and venous thrombosis in the vessels by decreasing the levels of coagulation indices of the treated groups. There was also down-regulation of the expression of tissue necrosis in the liver of rats treated with 2-BE as a result of Polyherbal treatment. The polyherbal formula, therefore, shows potential for use in the management of conditions associated with thrombotic, thromboembolic disorders and the associated endothelial dysfunction. Molecular investigation of the bioactive components is however expedient to better understand the specific mechanisms of action.

Background: Polyherbal formulation is the trend of modern pharmacognosy and holistic approach in the treatment of uncurable diseases such as cancer. Medicinal plants contain many bioactive compounds that give different pharmacological activities. Therefore, it is important to investigate the quality of new polyherbal formulation by identification of bioactive markers. Objective: To identify apigenin (1) , luteolin (2), b-sitosterol (9), 3'-hydroxy-5, 6, 7, 4'-tetra methoxy flavone (8), quercetin (3), vanillin(7), gallic acid (5), benzoic acid (6) and rutin (4) as biomarker from different fractions of the new polyherbal formulation of Clinacanthus nutans and Elephantopus scaber by RP-HPLC gradient method. Methods: A Shimadzu HPLC was utilized to perform the analysis which was equipped with an autosampler, column oven, and UV/VIS detector. An HPLC column used was Merck Licrochart Purospher Start RP 18 column (250mm, 4.6 mm i.d, 5μm pore size). The temperature was maintained at 40.0 ºC throughout the study. The mobile phase isocratic method with acetonitrile 100%. The flow rate was 0.5 mL min −1. Absorbance was observed at λ = 360 nm. Results: After identification of bioactive compounds it was established that 3'-hydroxy-5, 6, 7, 4'-tetra methoxy flavone, gallic acid, benzoic acid and vanillin was found in a polyherbal formulation that was not present before in Clinacanthus nutans and Elephantopus scaber. Other bioactive compounds such as Apigenin. Luteolin, b-sitosterol, quercetin, and rutin were present in both medicinal herbs as well as inside polyherbal fractions. Vanillic acid was the oxidative product of vanillin that was found in Elephantopus scaber. In the polyherbal formulation, vanillin was found that shows the transformation of vanillic acid into vanillin. Conclusion: Formation of new bioactive compounds from a polyherbal formulation that was not present before in both medicinal plant. Identification of biomarkers helps to increase the quality of the new product for future.

Obesity  is one  of  the  major  lifestyle diseases affecting  more  than  2  billion  people worldwide.
Currently, there are synthetic drugs to reverse the disease of obesity.
These drugs are expensive and can cause several side effects.
Therefore, researchers are looking for herbal solutions.
In the present study, we have prepared a novel polyherbal formulation for the treatment of obesity. We have  determined  the  toxicity  of  this
polyherbal  formulation  on  adult  Zebra  fish  and  its embryos.
The  lethal  concentration  LC50 of  this  polyherbal  formulation  was  found  to  be 1371mg/L  in  adult Zebra fish whereas 57.1mg/L in
Zebra fish embryos.
This result will be taken into consideration for further studies on adult Zebra fish.

Skin inflammation happens most ordinarily in over 96% of young people on skin as it is the most uncovered piece of our body to the microbes particularly acne causing microscopic organisms. In the current review, poly natural enemy of skin inflammation organic product face wash gel. Results showed that the gel was non-aggravation, stable and gangs hostile to acne action. The viability when tried with a standard was practically same to that of gel. From this review, it was reasoned that the organic product face wash gel is serious against standard with less incidental effects. The optimized formulation generates semisolid consistency, does not greasy residue upon implementation upon that skin. The pH of preparation was noticed to in the range of 5.5-5.7. It shows no grittiness inadequately inspection process of the able to prepare preparation noted no lumps and to have color scattering free from every fiber and particle. Viscosity of preparation would be in the range of 4.702-5.829. All preparation have better in comparison to marketed preparation and then in the range of 8.982-9.983. During stability testing F2 preparation produce good results during 3 months.

Background Sickle cell disease is a genetic disorder that causes stiff, rod-like sickle-shaped hemoglobin in red blood cells (RBCs) and consequently poses serious health complications. Aim We investigated an in-vitro anti-sickling potential of a novel Mishenland polyherbal formula (MPF) for possible ameliorative effects. Materials and methods Sickling of RBCs induced with 2% sodium metabisulfite was followed by treatment with MPF mixtures in different saline concentrations (7, 9, 14, and 28 mg/ml). The red cell morphology was examined microscopically. Percentage sickling was assessed at 30 min intervals at 37°C for 2 h. The effect of the MPF on membrane stability of RBCs was analyzed using osmotic fragility testing. Results Qualitative phytochemical screening demonstrated the presence of some secondary metabolites namely alkaloids, glycosides, phenols, saponin, tannin, and terpenoids. Sickling of RBCs induced with metabisulfite was inhibited by MPF. This anti-sickling effect was directly proportional to the concentration of the MPF, dose dependently. There was a significant difference (P<0.05) between MPF-treated and untreated sickled red cell counts. Osmotic fragility curves obtained from MPF-treated RBCs showed leftward shifts against the untreated control, indicative of increased RBC membrane stabilization and hemolytic resistance, while the mean corpuscular fragility also showed a significant difference (P<0.05). Conclusion MPF demonstrated significant anti-sickling and erythrocyte membrane stability properties. These effects under hypoxia signified a promising effect of the bioactive components as probable drug candidates against sickling of red cells. Egypt J Haematol 2019 44:65-71

Background: Older people suffering from Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) are at major risk for age related cognitive dysfunction and dementia, mainly due to vascular complications. Studies have shown that T2DM is also associated with Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) and is responsible for accelerating the pathology through insulin resistance. A polyherbal drug containing Bacopa Monnieri, Hippophae rhamnoides and Dioscorea bulbifera has shown a potent neuroprotective effect in management of cognitive deficits in elderly; and metformin a well-accepted antidiabetic agent responsible for lowering blood glucose in T2DM, can together provide an intriguing potential combination therapy for prevention and amelioration of cognitive impairments in T2DM patients.
Objective: The present study is aimed to evaluate the combined effect of a polyherbal drug and metformin on improving cognitive functions in patients suffering from T2DM.
Method: Elderly patients with an age range of 60-75 years diagnosed for T2DM were enrolled in the study and randomized into two groups; Group I=T2DM patients given metformin and placebo, Group II=T2DM patients given metformin and polyherbal drug. The subjects received the combination therapy of metformin (500 mg) and placebo or metformin (500 mg) and polyherbal drug (500 mg) twice daily for a period of 24 weeks. Estimation of Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) score, blood glucose, HbA1c, insulin, lipid profile (total cholesterol, LDL-c, HDL-c, triglycerides), homocysteine, Interleukin-6 (IL-6), TNF-α and C-reactive protein (CRP) were measured at baseline and were repeated at three months and six months. The primary end point was a change from baseline to week 24 in MMSE score. Key secondary end points included change from baseline to week 24 in Digital Symbol Substitution (DSS); subtest of the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-Revised), word recall (digital memory apparatus – Medicaid systems, Chandigarh, India), attention span (Attention Span Apparatus – Medicaid systems, Chandigarh, India), Functional Activity Questionnaire (FAQ) and Hamilton Depression Scale (HDS) score. Further inflammatory markers and level of oxidative stress were analysed using standard biochemical tests.
Result: The trial was performed in 120 elderly diabetic patients out of whom 112 patientscompleted the study for 24 weeks. Statistically significant differences were found between the two groups after intervention on cognitive performance indicated by MMSE, DSS, word recall, attention span, FAQ, HDS, and memory span scores; inflammatory
markers such as C-reactive protein (CRP), interleukin- 6 (IL-6), Interferon-α (INF-α) and Tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α); oxidative stress markers like Superoxide dismutase (SOD), Glutathione peroxidase (GPx), Glutathione (GSH) and Thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS); and neurodegeneration marker Homocysteine (Hcy). However, no significant variations were indicated between groups in serum insulin
and HbA1c levels after intervention of 24 weeks.
Conclusion: The results of this study demonstrate the therapeutic potential of the combination therapy of a polyherbal drug and metformin. These results also support longer trials of this combination
therapy for patients with mild cognitive impairment and diabetes.
