In the 2019 season, the joint Leiden-Turin Expedition to Saqqara continued work in the area north of the tomb of Maya with the aim of lowering the terrain above the new tomb discovered during the 2018 season (V82.1) and to prepare the area for further exploration in 2020. Many layers of deposit situated immediately to the north of the new tomb were removed and – although they mostly originated from previous excavations in the 1980s and 1990s –  systematically investigated. Several dumps of organic material such as linen and wood as well as numerous small finds and relief fragments were identified and recorded. In addition, existing storage facilities on site were renovated and upgraded. In this process, part of the underground structures of the tombs of Horemheb and Meryneith were surveyed by the 3D Survey Group (Politecnico di Milano). Thanks to the cooperation with the same Milanese team, a new documentation method was tested during the ongoing excavation work. Within a 3D-model t...

Also known as Sepo, was a renowned international graphic designer. He started working as a graphic designer in the early Twenties in Paris, but in the next decades he achieved his major success thanks to his genuine approach and his revolutionary ideas concerning product advertisement and illustration. Indeed his works are characterized by sophistication and graphic elegance, but they also attest to a profound awareness of customers' desires and dictates of the market. By considering in a new light his theoretical and historical background, this paper proposes a new critical approach concerning his productions and his international relevance within the European context.

The Prati di Stuores/Stuores Wiesen section (Dolomites, Italy) is proposed as a candidate Global Stratotype Section and Point for the base of the Carnian Stage. In addition to being a famous, richly fossiliferous locality, it includes the type-section of the Cordevolian substage. The section is located near Pralongia, along the southern slope of the crest separating the Badia/Abtei and Cordevole valleys. Below the levels with Trachyceras aon , the section contains a rich ammonoid fauna that chacterizes the lower part of the Regoledanus Subzone and subsequently records the first appearances of the mid-high latitude genus Daxatina ( Daxatina sp., D. cf. canadensis ) and of traditional Trachyceras with species different from T. aon . Moreover, the Daxatina cf. canadensis Subzone is recognised above the Regoledanus Subzone. An amphibian fauna from Permo-Carboniferous boundary beds is recorded for the first time in Italy. A thin fossiliferous level has been found in the Perdasdefogu Basin in southeastern Sardinia;it yields several speciments of Branchiosaurus cf."B." petrolei Gaudry 1875), often in mass mortality assemblages.Repeated mass mortality events testify to sudden changes in the environment of the basin, possibly due to seasonal variations. The finding of speciments very close to Branchiosaurus petrolei ,which is a common species in the Central France basins,confirms that Sardinia at the time belonged to the same hydrographic basin of continental Europe, with no seaway in between.Furthermore, though not the primary focus of this note, we report the first discovery of the xenacanth teeth and acanthodian spines in Italy.

The Guadalquivir foreland basin, located between the Iberian basement northward and the Betic orogen to the South, represents the western sector of the earlier foredeep basin of the Betic Cordillera. Along the northern foreland margin, the sedimentary fill of this basin includes a Tortonian Basal Transgressive Complex (BTC), composed of five internal sequences bounded by transgressive surfaces. Two main parts are distinguished within each sequence: the lower transgressive lag deposits, and the upper stillstand/prograding sediments. Three facies associations were distinguished within this stratigraphic succession along the central sector of this basin margin: unfossiliferous conglomerates and coarse-grained sands (A), fossiliferous conglomerates and coarse-grained sands (B), and yellow medium-coarse-grained fossiliferous sands (C). Results of an integrated biostratigraphic (calcareous nannofossils and planktonic foraminifers) study of the uppermost Langhian/lower Serravallian Ras il-Pellegrin section (Fomm ir-Rih Bay – Malta) are presented. This high resolution study allowed us to recognise several useful lower Serravallian bio-events in the Mediterranean and to provide a detailed distribution pattern of the recognised taxa. The astrochronological calibration, reported in a different paper of this volume, provided absolute ages of the bio-events of the studied section.
