Not many consultants have worked in real SAP HANA ABAP Projects. They are curious as to how the real Business Document might look with HANA as a Database. This document would help those consultants to have a high level understanding of this newer area.

SAP HANA (High-performance Analytic Appliance) is an in-memory database and the main idea is provide centralized data in the main memory. It is designed to work with transactional and analytical processing and one of the first solution based on this platform is SAP Simple Finance, a redesign of Financial and Controlling modules and, after that, the SAP S/4HANA, a new set of enterprise solutions, that are the most chosen recent technologies in order to do this research through the participation in online courses, documentation and articles in specific sites and it uses the qualitative method applied in a single case study, even the dificulties to realize the interviews, the analysis was done based on the characteristics of the platform as an in-memory database, its advantages about transactional and analytical processing, possibilities of implementaton and security, and about SAP Simple Finance, what differs it from FI and CO traditional modules, the data consistence, real-time analysis and its continuity in the Business Suite S/4HANA, as well as its adherence by the market, besides the SAP’s strategy and where it wants to get, the Business Suite S/4HANA roadmap and, finally, an advice of a specialized consultancy about its adoption. All this evidence shows that this case study is in accordance with what was said by the search sources.

SAP HANA é uma plataforma de dados in-memory, executada em CPUs multi-core e contém terabytes de memória permitindo que todos os dados estejam disponíveis na memória principal e as operações de backup realizadas em segundo plano e possui como característica o armazenamento em colunas (column-oriented), permitindo uma alta compressão e em localizações de memória adjacentes eliminando a necessidade de estruturas adicionais de índices possibilitando leituras com altíssimo desempenho, ou seja, a análise de grandes volumes de dados pode ser feita em tempo real com o maior nível de detalhes possível, além da redução ou eliminação de agregações e mapeamento de dados, bem como operações de ETL (Extração, Transformação e Carga) necessárias em Data Warehouses e Data Marts. Foi desenhada para realizar seus cálculos básicos, como joins analíticos, scans e agregações em paralelo usando múltiplos núcleos (otimização pré-configurada para processadores de 64 bits com vários núcleos). Além disso, em relação à implantação, existem diferentes alternativas disponíveis de uma infraestrutura HANA, sendo elas: on-premise, cloud e híbrida.

SAP Simple Finance é uma renovação do portfólio da solução de finanças, sendo a peça central o SAP Accounting, e a plataforma SAP HANA dá a oportunidade para recriar uma única fonte de verdade através da centralização dos dados possibilitando que a informação possa ser recuperada de qualquer maneira de forma totalmente automatizada permitindo a capacidade de fazer análises em tempo real e não de maneira sequencial. Totais e agregados foram removidos e são efetuados em tempo real pela forma como os clientes ou usuários finais desejam. Havia diferentes livros: para a contabilidade financeira, gerencial, de ativos, ledger de materiais, por exemplo. E as entradas em tabelas diferentes não eram reconciliadas automaticamente. No entanto, houve uma harmonização entre a contabilidade gerencial e financeira e agora há um único registo para todos os fins. Não há reconciliação, pois tudo está indo de volta para esse único registro. Para a solução de Receivables Management há novas interfaces gráficas e uma nova solução de Cash Management. Uma nova arquitetura da solução de Business Planning and Consolidation. Foi investido em Working Capital Management com uma nova solução de Cash Management e Working Capital Analytics. Além das soluções Fraud Management e Audit Management.

In one of the ABAP forum, a member suggested that we collate the frequently used transactions and tables which every ABAPer use in almost all projects. This page is for young developers like him who are curious as to what are the t-codes in other modules of SAP, where he did not get opportunity to work till then.

It is nearly impossible to prevent a developer from accessing any t-code. We saw an example in our other post titled “Can you really restrict any developer from executing any t-code?“. For almost a decade I (and I am sure, all ABAPers) have been happily using the loop holes in SAP security to access the forbidden transactions, with no malicious intension though, only for speedy analysis and ethical debugging.

But today I am wondering, is it really a loop hole or has SAP provided these small windows to the developers knowingly?

At times, you need to create or modify the program variants directly in Production system. Usually the variants are moved in transports and that is the right way. But certain clients allow you to create variants in production system directly.

The dilemma is, you do not have access to SE38, SA38, SE80 or variant t-code in production system to create/change variants. You need to log in using your Fire Fighter id. For those youngsters who have never worked in any support project, Fire Fighter is a user id which has elevated role. You have privilege to all those transactions which you do not have access with your normal user id. But, keep in mind, the Fire Fighter is monitored id. Every click of yours is tracked and you need to be very careful while using it.

Creating/changing the variant via Fire Fighter id is not that painful, but lately I have been updating/changing the variants without using Fire Fighter role and also not via SE38/SA38/SE80.
