ÖZ. Bu araştırmanın amacı 2013-2014 eğitim öğretim yılında uygulanmaya başlanan yeni Temel Eğitimden Orta Öğretime Geçiş (TEOG) sistemiyle ilgili öğrenci, öğretmen ve veli görüşlerini incelemektir. Araştırma karma araştırma desenlerinden yakınsayan paralel karma desene uygun olarak tasarlanmıştır. Araştırmanın nicel kısmına ilişkin veriler 116’sı öğretmen, 106’sı veli ve 193’ü öğrenci olmak üzere toplam 415 katılımcıdan, nitel kısmına ilişkin veriler ise 5 öğretmen, 6 öğrenci ve 6 veliden elde edilmiştir. 2013-2014 eğitim-öğretim yılında gerçekleştirilen bu araştırmada, nicel veriler anket aracılığıyla, nitel veriler ise görüşme yöntemiyle elde edilmiştir. Araştırma sonunda hem nicel hem de nitel bulgular, yeni sistemin beraberinde getirdiği, öğrencilerin sınava kendi okullarında girmeleri, sınavın iki döneme yayılması, mazeret/telafi sınavının olması, puanlamada düzeltme formülünün kullanılmaması gibi yeni uygulamaların genel olarak olumlu karşılandığını göstermiştir. Katılımcılar bu uygulamaların öğrencilerin sınav stresi ve kaygısını azaltma konusunda etkili olduğunu düşünmektedir. Diğer taraftan TEOG’un zayıf yanlarına ilişkin bulguların başında TEOG sisteminin kökleşmiş bir sorun olan dershane ve özel ders ihtiyacını azaltmadığı ve sınav güvenliğinin yetersiz olduğu yönündeki görüşler gelmektedir.

This paper deals with different loss mechanisms within the single mode fiber (SMF) in optical fiber communication. A number of mechanisms are responsible for the signal attenuation within optical fibers. As the optical signal propagates over long stretch of fiber, it becomes attenuated because of absorption, scattering, fiber bends by material impurities, and other effects. The transmission using high bandwidth can handle vast amounts of information, which can be further improved by reduction in fiber losses, increase in data rates and distances, and using appropriate operating wavelength in optical fiber communication. The recent development in the area of fiber optic communication as well as the advances in different fiber types and their properties such as attenuation or loss and bandwidth are also discussed in this paper. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of several student and school level variables on students' mathematical achievement and mathematical achievement growth in middle school. The research population consisted of students in Ankara who started middle school in 2008 and graduated in 2011. Using a non-random typical case sampling method, 3715 students were sampled from 40 middle schools. The data used in this study were obtained from the Ministry of National Education with express written permission. Student Placement raw mathematics subtest scores from 2009 to 2011 were used as the dependent variable in the analysis. "Gender, mathematics grade point average in 6 th grade, and school attendance at sixth grade" comprised the student level variables whereas "school type and school size" variables comprised the school-level variables. A three-level hierarchical linear growth model was used to investigate the effects of these variables. Students' raw mathematics subtest scores in Students Placement Test were included in the model after these scores were equated. The results of the model analysis indicated that there was no growth in students' mathematical achievement. It was also observed that school attendance, sixth-grade mathematics grade point average and school type had a statistically significant effect on students' sixth-grade mathematical achievement.
