• We conducted a meta-analysis of the association between LGBT status and NSSI • Sexual and gender minorities are at elevated risk for NSSI • Transgender and bisexual individuals are at greatest risk for NSSI • General and LGBT-specific factors likely account for this greater risk • Longitudinal and treatment studies are needed A R T I C L E I N F O Keywords: LGBT Meta-analysis Non-suicidal self-injury Self-harm Sexual minority A B S T R A C T The current review presents a meta-analysis of the existing empirical literature on the prevalence of non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) among lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) individuals, as well as on correlates of NSSI within sexual and gender minority populations. Eligible publications (n = 51) were identified through a systematic search of PsycINFO, MEDLINE, and Embase, supplemented by a search of references of prior reviews on this topic. NSSI prevalence rates were quite elevated among sexual (29.68% lifetime) and gender (46.65% lifetime) minority individuals compared to heterosexual and/or cisgender peers (14.57% lifetime), with trans-gender (46.65% lifetime) and bisexual (41.47% lifetime) individuals being at greatest risk. Even among these group findings, sexual minority youth emerged as an especially vulnerable population. Moreover, current evidence suggests these rates and differences between LGBT and heterosexual and/or cisgender peers have not declined over time. These findings may in some measure be due to the existence of LGBT-specific risk correlates combined with general risk correlates being more severe among sexual and gender minority populations. Additional research, particularly employing a longitudinal design, is needed in this area to advance efforts to reduce risk for NSSI among sexual and gender minority individuals.

Increased legal protections and visibility in popular media of sexual minority persons can lead some to believe that sexual prejudice is a thing of the past (Kite & Bryant-Lees, 2016). However, national statistics still show sexual minority youth at greater risks for self-harming thoughts and attempts than their heteronormative counterparts (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, & National Center for Injury Prevention and Control, 2019); and indicate schools as particularly hostile environments for these youth as well (Kowsic, Greytak, Zongrone, Clark, & Truong, 2018). The current study looks to fill a gap in the literature by focusing on the experience of sexual minority persons who concealed their nonheterosexual identity in their K-12 setting. Abstract: - This study was conducted on 126 Hindu married women who were gone through of ancestral property distribution process. As per the Hindu Succession Act (1956) and Hindu Succession (Amendment) Act, 2005 daughters are eligible to get equal portion of ancestral property as sons. However, this study shows clearly most of the Hindu married women who are uneducated and financially dependent on their spouse or sons or daughters they generally end-up losing their fair share of ancestral property at the time of property distribution. On the other hand educated Hindu married women who are capable to negotiate their own right they generally get treated much fairly. That study also shows women who leave their legal share of ancestral property they do that under emotional pressure of their siblings and in fear of losing them permanently. As a result they regret in later period since these women are financially dependent on others and therefore in case of any financial emergency they feel really helpless and regret for their decision of leaving ancestral property share. However, the further study should be conducted on Hindu unmarried women and the women of other religion as well to understand the actual scenario. Meanwhile changes in legal system are also necessary to prevent such dubious practices so that patriarchal society cannot exploit the loopholes of the Indian legal system.

The authors examined the extent to which outness, connectedness to the LGBT community, and relationship satisfaction could be used to predict internalized sexual stigma scores. A total of 279 Italian lesbians (47%) and gay men (53%) in a same-sex relationship for at least six months completed the web-based survey. Significant correlations were found between outness, connectedness, relationship satisfaction, and internalized stigma. Analyses of variance were conducted on demographic variables to explore group differences. Multivariate regression analysis suggests that demographic variables, outness, connectedness, and relationship satisfaction combined accounted for 32.8% of the variance in overall internalized sexual stigma. Clinical implications are discussed.

Minority gay, bisexual and queer (GBQ) men face not only stigma from the general population based on their sexual orientation, but stigma as well based on their race, body type and their gender identity. Results of this study were derived from baseline data of the Pink Carpet Y Cohort Study in Singapore comprising a sample of 570 GBQ men aged 18 to 25 years old. Controlling for key demographic variables, being non-Chinese was associated with depression severity (aPR=1.21, 95%CI [1.01,1.45]), experienced homophobia (aPR=1.13, 95%CI [1.05,1.22]) and a past suicide attempt (aPR=1.77, 95%CI [1.08,2.92]); being non-cisgender male was associated with depression severity (aPR=1.27, 95%CI [1.05,1.55]) and experienced homophobia (aPR=1.20, 95%CI [1.09,1.32]); reporting a BMI of 25 or more was associated with depression severity (aPR=1.20, 95%CI [1.00,1.44]). Reporting one minority status was associated with depression severity (aPR=1.23, 95%CI [1.05,1.45]) experienced homophobia (aPR=1.08, 95%CI [1.01,1.15]), and a past suicide attempt (aPR=1.61, 95%CI [1.01,2.56]), while reporting at least two minority statuses was associated with depression severity (aPR=1.47, 95%CI [1.17,1.83]), experienced homophobia (aPR=1.26, 95%CI [1.14,1.40]), and past suicide ideation (aPR=1.28, 95%CI [1.01,1.62]), compared to participants in the general sample. Interventions are needed to buffer the effects of stigma in this vulnerable group of individuals.

The article reports empirical research investigating what respect means for gays and lesbians. Drawing on Honneth’s social philosophical recognition theory, it was predicted and found that gays’ and lesbians’ experiences of being respected were primarily related to (perceived) social recognition as an equal as opposed to social recognition of needs or achievements. This finding was replicated across the contexts of family, friends and work. Also as expected, equality recognition figured less prominently in experiences of love and social esteem, which underlines that it plays a dominant role specifically in the meaning of respect. Need recognition consistently played a dominant role in the experience of love, while achievement recognition was dominant in the experience of social esteem, except in the context of family. Finally, the dominant role of equality recognition also held with regard to respect experienced at the level of society at large and across time. The relevance of broader discourses of social justice and rights is discussed.
