Retrieval to specific information is critical to user satisfaction in today's semantic web environment. Users use various terms, nomenclatures and words for aiding mnemonic value to identify concepts for future access and sharing with community members. Social tagging has emerged as a popular option for the millennials to address this issue Tagging is a convenient way used by today's users for naming their web resources in their own terms. In this study a comparative study was carried out between the standardised Online Computer Library Centre (OCLC) Faceted Application of Subject Terminology (FAST) Subject headings and the popular user-generated tags observed on the LibraryThing website for select books written by Mahatma Gandhi, the iconic Father of Modern India, who was also a prolific writer. M K Gandhi wrote many books, letters, newsletters, essays and edited journals on various subjects like health, vegetarianism, diet, religion and social reforms. A close examination of the subject headings and tags given by users to works authored by M K Gandhi reveal that there is a vast amount of difference between the standard terms assigned using OCLC FAST Subject Headings and tags assigned by the users. The study reveals that neither subject headings nor tags are perfect systems by themselves, but they may complement each other in library catalogues. The inclusion of user-generated keywords into catalogues will greatly enhance representation, organisation and retrieval of resources in a library environment.

The changing electronic environment and advancements in information and communication technology (ICT) is forcing Indian Universities to think about digitizing their theses and dissertations (ETDs), because generating the scholarly content and publishing it in open access platform for more visibility to a wider range of audience across the globe is the new mantra for scholarly communication. This study was undertaken to know the ETD Policy frame works in India, to give a proposed ETD Model, to Know the total number of Indian ETD repositories registered in OpenDOAR (Directory of Open Access Repositories) and current status of ETD repositories in India. Further study depicts the importance of ETD repositories, access policy, subject coverage, browse options and other value-added services. The study shows that maximum number of ETD repositories in has adopted open-source software i.e DSpace for building ETD repositories and Shodhganga is leading in terms of the number of records contained in ETD repository further this study reveals that some ETDs projects are in progress stage and some others are in preliminary stage.

This study is an attempt to look into the various characteristics of Ph.D. theses uploaded on Shodhganga from some of the reputed universities across India. The study brings some quantitative aspect as well as some important findings from the qualitative analysis of over a hundred Ph.D. theses from these universities. The study brings out the variations and commonness in the characteristics of the Ph.D. theses uploaded and also important findings relevant with global context.

In order to understand the growth and development of any subject it very essential to understand the foot prints of subject or else study of Trends also helps in prediction of the potential future. Trend analysis of Research in Library and information science helps in analyzing the facts and figures of contemporary Library and Information Science (LIS) research in India as they are preserved in Shodhganga repository, which is The Reservoir of Indian Theses.This study is undertaken with the aim to explore the growth and development of LIS doctoral research in India by capturing and analyzing them. The findings of the study shows that there are 2015 doctoral theses uploaded to Shodhganga during 2010 to 2021 in the area of Library and Information Science by the 111 universities. The data relating to research growth and development was systematically collected, analysed and presented in  seven category like Year-wise Growth, State-wise Distribution, University-wise Distribution, Most Contributing Supervisors, Most Preferred and Emerging Area of Research and Gender-wise Distribution. The findings reveal that 2016 was the most productive year with 443 (21.98%) theses and highest number of doctoral research was carried out in Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tamilnadu (5.45%). The research output also traced that Dr. C. R. Karisiddappa is the most contributing supervisor (1.68%). Further the findings indicate that Metric Study, Automation, Usages of Electronic and Web Based Resources, Social Networking, Consortia, Knowledge Management, Digital Information Literacy etc are the emerging areas of research that LIS researchers are more interested in. findings provides directions to scholars for further research in the area of Library and Information Science.

This study is to identify the number of theses/dissertations submitted in the INFLIBNET Shodhganga ETD Repository by Indian universities till June 2016. The present study investigates the rate of successful submitted the thesis and dissertations in the field of Library and Information Science. A total number of 727 theses/dissertations were submitted in Library and Information Science by 61 universities departments. The data collected from Shodhganga website (http://shodhganga.inflibnet.ac.in/). It has been analyzed in different parameters and presented in different section I.e. date wise submission, items wise, region wise, university wise, language wise, state wise universities and so on. The aim of the study is to present the real picture of the Shodhganga ETD Repository.

INFLIBNET Centre is aggressively working towards creation of open access institutional repositories and platform to support open access publishing at higher learning institutions like universities, colleges and R & D research centre in India, and imparting training in applications on various aspects of new technology to achieve such goals and encouraging library and information professionals to expand their horizon in digital content creations, process of digitization, managing digital depositories and open access etc. In the country like India, open access journals and institutional repositories are two main routes of open access publishing system now a day. This article discusses on different open access initiatives taken by the INFLIBNET Centre in serving the scholarly and scientific communities in the country. The article also reviewed the current status, benefits and its impacts on the universities and its users.

Present paper emphasis on Shodhganga& its features. Author has analysed the uploaded PhD theses by chronological, department, the contribution of Top Ten Universities and contribution of Maharashtra state in contributing PhD theses in Shodhganga. The Theses uploading strategy is also focused by the author.

Purpose – This paper aims to examine the progress and current status of Shodhganga: a reservoir Indian electronic theses. The paper further discusses the need and importance of a centrally maintained repository in the current age and the role and challenges of universities, libraries and researchers in development of institutional repositories at university levels. Design/methodology/approach – Data are collected from Shodhganga server/Web site followed by simple excel analysis which are presented in the paper in the form of tables and graphs. Findings – As on 30 June 2015, a total of 40,175 theses have been deposited in the repository by 217 universities. Jawaharlal Nehru University has submitted highest number of theses (4570, 11.37 per cent) followed by Anna University (2910, 7.24 per cent), Mahatma Gandhi University (2056, 5.12 per cent) and Bundelkhand University (1760, 4.38 per cent).
