Two new species of black flies, Simulium (Simulium) jasmoni and S. (S.) tiomanense, are described on the basis of adult, pupal and larval specimens collected from Tioman Island, Pahang, Malaysia, and are placed in the tuberosum species-group in the subgenus Simulium (Simulium) Latreille. Simulium (S.) jasmoni, new species, is characterised by the female tarsal claw with a minute subbasal projection, an unusual characteristic within the species-group, and S. (S.) tiomanense, new species, is striking in having a dichoptic male head, a characteristic rarely recorded in the family Simuliidae, as well as the pupal thoracic integument with a pit-like organ near the base of each gill. Two new species of black flies, Simulium (Gomphostilbia) terengganuense sp. nov. and Simulium (Gomphostilbia) aziruni sp. nov. (Diptera: Simuliidae), are described on the basis of reared adult, pupal, and larval specimens collected from Peninsular Malaysia. Both species are placed in the batoense species-group within the subgenus Gomphostilbia, one of two dominant subgenera of the genus Simulium in Peninsular Malaysia as well as in the Oriental Region. Strikingly, three morphological characteristics that rarely occur in the subgenus Gomphostilbia are found in these two new species: the very narrow female frons and the mushroom-like pupal terminal hooks in S. (G.) terengganuense sp. nov. and the pupal gill composed of an inflated horn-like structure and eight slender filaments in S. (G.) aziruni sp. nov.

We describe the female, male, pupa, and larva of a new black fly species in the subgenus Thyrsopelma. Males of Simulium duodenicornium n. sp. have a black scutum, without silver bands or patterns, covered with golden yellow hairs. The female scutal pattern is similar to that of most other species in the subgenus Thyrsopelma with a black scutum covered by groups of gray-whitish hairs. Males of the new species can be distinguished by the shape of the ventral plate and females by the shape of the hypogynial valves. The pupa of the new species has 12 short, thick, rigid gill filaments, with highly sclerotized and pointed tips. The pupa is similar to those of Simulium guianense s. l. Wise and Simulium perplexum Shelley, Maia-Herzog, Luna Dias & Couch, but the gill filaments are thicker basally and do not have spicules in an annular arrangement. The family Simuliidae is the host of simbiontes fungi that inhabit the digestive tracts of arthropods. This paper reports the presence of fungi in Simulium goeldii Cerqueira & Nunes de Mello larvae in Amazonia. We observed that the larvae are a good component of aquatic systems to isolate filamentous fungi.
