Societal Challenges as Innovation Drivers

Global societal challenges to achieve a sustainable society and economy demand innovation based on a combination of knowledge of technology and of processes and mechanism that mediate the take up innovation in the societal context. They require a trans disciplinary approach integrating technological with social innovation to achieve impact in society. The key enabling methodologies introduced in this paper mediate between the so-called technological solutions and their eventual uptake within society. The document is meant to function as input for future research programs in the Netherlands, integrating technologies and the proposed methodologies.
