OBJECTIVE – The objective of this research is to implement CMMI Level 2 specific practice – SP 1.3-1 manage requirements changes. In this paper we have proposed a model for requirements change management and also discussed initial validation of this model. Top-down process improvement approaches provide a high-level model of what the process of a software development organization should be. Such models are based on the consensus of a designated working group on how software should be developed or maintained. They are very useful in that they provide general guidelines on where to start improving, and in which order. However, the majority of them have only worked in scenarios within large companies. We aim to help small software development organizations to adopt an iterative approach by providing a Process Improvement Web-based Tool (SysProVal). This paper presents research into the proposal that a small organization may use this tool to define and implement a set of project management practices that can be strengthened using the CMMI-DEV 1.2 model as reference. In today's global competitive environment, organizations are always trying to improve their practices aiming to achieve higher levels of productivity, quality and competitiveness. Software process improvement (SPIdex) is one of the most used approaches to achieve these goals. However, this kind of initiative is not easy, and usually great investments are necessary. Therefore, determining the return on these investments is very important to justify them and keep high-level management and project teams motivated for continuous improvement. In this article, we present quantitative results of return on investment (ROI) at BL Informática, a Brazilian small-sized organization which is improving its processes since 2003 and is experiencing great success. We present the benefits regarding schedule, costs, productivity, quality, customer satisfaction and also financial benefits. International Conference on Emerging Practices in Software Process & Architecture (SOFTPA 2022) is an emerging practice in Software Development life cycle adopted by various software organizations to develop an environment of continuous deployment and delivery within time. There are several software development processes that practice the concept of continuous improvement and automation to maintain the operational stability and smooth flow of software delivery.

Management problems in the development of software have been addressed over the last years by a strong focus on the improvement of the development processes. Software process improvement (SPI) activities are characterized by an internal focus on a software development department and its procedures. However, the quality of the product is hardly addressed in software process improvement programs. This paper presents the application of a model for product focused SPI (P-SPI) and describes experiences with this model in practice. The main conclusions are that P-SPI puts products to be developed in a central position in improvement programs, results in fulfilling specific quality goals of a company and project, and industrial experiments show interesting benefits. Applying the approach in industrial projects showed that P-SPI is relatively cheap and gives fast results and high benefits.

Most of the companies around the globe which are involved in software development are small and medium scale enterprises. In the world economy these organizations are considered as the backbone. As per history, it is found that more than 85% of the companies in US, China, India, Finland, Ireland etc are small and medium scale enterprises during the year 2008. These small and medium enterprises at some time have realized that their process and working methods should be improved and is crucial for their business. They felt difficult to implement because of the lack of knowledge as well as resources. Successful software process improvement implementation is a herculean task for these small and medium enterprises since they are not capable of investing the cost of these programs. They are unaware of the effective innovations as well as the factors that can influence the adoption of software process improvement in small and medium enterprises. Most of the small software organizations are not adopting existing standards. The reason is that they perceive them as being oriented towards large organizations. The studies have shown that small firms' negative perceptions of process model standards are primarily driven by negative views of cost, documentation and bureaucracy. In this paper, we present a brief description about the software process improvement as well as a review on the current software process improvement methodologies for small and medium enterprises.

Integrated Software Management (ISM) and Software Product Engineering (SPE) are the two key process areas (KPA) of interest in the current study. They are both at the defined level of software process maturity. Following the clamor for software companies with high levels of maturity, the study examined the level of performance and relationship between ISM and SPE practices in the software industry of a typical developing country, with Nigeria as the case study. The study was conducted using survey research, case study and action research methodologies. The study covered 30 software companies spanning across several different geographical zones. The results of the research revealed a strong relationship between the ISM and SPE KPAs and a poor performance of the key practices associated with the respect KPAs in the industry. To improve the current level of performance of the respective KPAs, software companies have been advised to procure the services of professional ISM and SPE service providers and to properly equip their software product engineers and integrated software managers with the specialized skills and knowledge necessary for properly discharging their duties.

Software project management has been identified as a major determinant factor of software project's success or failure. Software Project Planning (SPP) and Software Project Tracking and Oversight (SPTO) have equally been identified as two key process areas in software project management at maturity level 2 of the SEI CMMI. Following the need for consistent software process improvement in software industries world-over, especially as it concerns software project management, this study focused on evaluating the current level of performance of the two identified KPAs, SPP and SPTO in the software industry. Besides a broad review of literature, a study was conducted covering 30 software companies in the Nigerian geographical area. The study employed both the survey and the action research approaches with some of the companies selected as case studies for further appraisal. The study revealed some level of strength in the performance of the practices associated with SPP and SPTO in the Nigerian software industry. The results of the study were consistent with findings of earlier studies in enterprises whose maturity levels at the time of study were similar to that of the Nigerian software industry. Several recommendations were given for improving the performance of the practices associated with SPP and SPTO key process areas in particular, and software project management in general.
