This article presents a simple control strategy to improve the performance of a synchronous reluctance motor drive system fed by a photovoltaic source. The photovoltaic generator parameters are selected based on maintaining the system operating point at the maximum output power of the photovoltaic generator at an average insolation level of 0.5 kW/m2. The proposed control strategy has three main functions; ensuring successful motor starting, maintaining the motor voltage within a permissible range, and forcing the photovoltaic array to operate at the maximum power point possible. Two modes of operation are studied for the proposed system depending upon the level of insolation compared with a critical value, which is the level below which the synchronous reluctance motor cannot work synchronously under the given pumping load. A sample of simulation results is introduced to confirm the effectiveness of the suggested strategy. It has been found that, using the proposed control strategy, the pump flow rate has been increased compared with an uncontrolled system.

There are some software that can be used to model, simulate and estimate photovoltaic system performance such as TRNSYS. This paper presents results of a simulation work carried out on a standalone photovoltaic system for residential house lighting using TRNSYS 16. An experimental setup of standalone photovoltaic system was established and then a comparison of the simulation results was made against measurement results to validate the model. It was found that the TRNSYS simulation model gave comparable results to the actual measurements. An accuracy improvement of previous research results was obtained by changing the component model and setting parameters.

In this study, a simulation of a standalone photovoltaic system with a power of 4.2 kW was carried out. In the system, which has a total of 20 photovoltaic panels, the perturb & observe maximum power point tracking method was used, and photovoltaic panel control was performed by a DC-DC boost converter. Thus, maximum power could be drawn from the panels continuously despite changing weather conditions. Batteries are used to store energy in this system, which operates independently from the network. The battery group with a total voltage level of 300V was charged and discharged by a bidirectional DC-DC converter. With variable radiation values, variable power generation was provided in the panels, and energy flow control in the system was realized. The required energy flow in the system has been controlled depending on the amount of energy generated from the photovoltaic panels, the energy demanded by the load and the state of charge of the battery pack. The energy in the dc bus regulated at 400V voltage level fed the load with the help of a single-phase inverter. The system was operated in five different modes, and performance of the system was introduced.

However, in many cases the design, analysis, and control of photovoltaic systems are tasks which are quite complex and thus difficult to be carried out. In order to cope with this kind of problems, appropriate software tools have been developed either as standalone products or parts of general purpose software platforms used to model and simulate the generation, transmission, and distribution of solar energy. The utilization of this kind of software tools may be extremely helpful to the successful performance evaluation of energy systems with maximum accuracy and minimum cost in time and effort. The work presented in this paper aims on a first level at the performance analysis of various configurations of photovoltaic systems through computer-aided modelling. This paper presents a new design of a standalone photovoltaic system which is supplying the required power to a direct current water pump that have difficulty to supply by the utility electricity. The system is controlled by an artificial neural networks (ANN) algorithm with function softening by PI controller that to guarantee the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) working conditions. A parallel connected PV array is designed to supply the required power to the water pump. The proposed design considers Permanent Magnet DC motor (PMDC) of 48 Volts, and 500 Watts as a water pump's motor, the direct current (DC) pump is adopted to avoid the complexity of the alternating current AC pumping system which includes inverter, power filter, and insulated step up transformer, so the presented design avoids the mentioned AC system components. A feed forward ANN algorithm is adopted in this study to produce the reference voltage for the MPPT functioning of the PV system, Proportional Integral (PI) controller is inserted to soften the MPPT controller performance. System design, MATLAB simulation with results and the results' analysis all are presented in this paper. The study conclusion confirms the effectiveness of the proposal as a successful system for practical applications.

A 10 kW PV system and 7.5 kW Pico-hydro system is connected in parallel to form hybrid system and this hybrid system is integrated with power grid. The PV/hydro hybrid system acts as a dominant system and primarily they supply power to the community. As the PV or hydro system cannot supply power in rainy or summer days, therefore the power grid is integrated to overcome the problem of PV or hydro system. In this paper we present an integrated platform, constituted by two main components: a PV simulator and a real-time distribution network simulator. The first simulates real-sky solar radiation of rooftops and estimates the PV energy production; the second simulates the behaviour of the network when generation and consumption are provided at the di↵erent buses. Photovoltaic technology is widely used around the worlds in locations with scarce power generation options. It is used for various applications and Building Integrated Photovoltaic system is one of them. However, photovoltaic are still expensive compared to conventional methods of generating electricity. So, a careful design of the system is required to ensure economic viability. This study describes a preliminary investigation of a Solar PV System for residential applications in Bandar Sri Iskandar. Sizing procedures based on the peak sun hour concept is described for a Malaysian typical terraced house. Current and voltage measurements of the solar panel were carried out to predict the output under actual conditions at site.
