S. Yardimli İ.A.Ü. Faculty of Architecture and Design Jews living in the Kaleiçi section of Edirne, created their own living spaces by contructing dwellings and synagogues. Many synagogues have been built in the Jewish settlement area, but most of them were completely destroyed by fire. Then, decision was made to build a large Synagogue in place of all the previous synagogues. Later on, the building was abandoned due to the migration of the Jews to Palestine and only the facade remained intact. The large Synagogue is an important part of the historic town fabric and it must be protected. The restoration efforts have been continuing since 2010. They are being supervised by the General Directorate of Foundations. The aims of this study are to emphasises the importance of this building in the historic town fabric and to mention the architectural characteristics and construction techniques of this Large Synagogue.
