"Reggae and dub has brought about many changes in production practices internationally. The studio Innovations pioneered by Osbourne “King Tubby” Ruddock and Lee “Scratch” Perry, have revolutionized production techniques in reggae, dancehall and many popular international genres.  The Ruddock and Perry Production Techniques have had a significant influence on the development of genres such as hip-hop, house drum and bass, trip hop, trance and techno. Despite this major contribution to pop music production techniques, there has been insufficient recognition for these “Dub Master’s” role in pioneering studio production styles.
This paper will examine the role of Ruddock and Perry, in the development of these distinctive techniques and juxtapose them along techniques of Anglo-America,  namely Phil Spector’s  Wall of Sound, the Beach Boys’  Pet Sounds and the Beatles Sgt Pepper Lonely Heart Club band  which have been valorized as landmark signposts in the history of pop music production.  By exploring the production techniques involved in creating the 1980s pop hit Genius of Love By Tom Tom Club.  I will show how the techniques of Ruddock and Perry have been appropriated by mainstream culture and how these techniques have influenced pop music production globally. In the process making a claim for the equal recognition of the work of Perry and Osbourne placing them in the same hallowed space occupied by their Anglo-American counterparts. "

Sebbene questo trend non sembri destinato a fermarsi è pur vero che, a ben guardare, la presenza delle dj all’interno di importanti festival – non orientati sul tema del gender - così come nella programmazione dei club, rimane nettamente inferiore a quella dei colleghi dj, raggiungendo, secondo alcune stime, un rapporto di 1 a 9.

House music has had a considerable influence in shaping the sound of pop music from the late 1980s onwards. From underground dance events to the pop charts, traces of this aesthetic can be found in many guises. This book is a comparative study which traces a genealogy of house music across England, the Netherlands and US cities, such as Chicago, from the early 1980s to the first half of the '90s. In doing so, it maps some of the power structures that are at play in the uses of its specific technologies of production and consumption. The author, Hillegonda Rietveld, was already steeped in dance club culture before she decided to write this loving piece of academic prose about house. Gabber is a hardcore electronic dance music genre, typified by extreme speed and overdrive, which developed in the Netherlands, with Rotterdam as its epicentre, during the early 1990s, when house music-inspired dance events dominated. The use of distorted noise and references to popular body horror, such as Hellraiser, dominated its scene, and soon gabber was commented on as ‘the metal of house music’, a statement that this article aims to investigate. Applying a genealogical discographic approach, the research found that the electronic noise music aesthetic of industrial music was crucial for the formation of the sound of gabber. The hardcore electronic dance music that developed from this is at once ironically nihilistic, a contrary critique, and a populist safety valve. The digital machine noise of hardcore seems to offer an immersive means to process the experience of (emasculating) fluidity within post-human accelerated technoculture, itself propelled by rapid digital capital and information technologies.

Pelayanan akan angkutan umum bagi masyarakat kota dilihat dari kebutuhan armada sangat penting sekali. Keseimbangan antara permintaan akan angkutan umum dengan sediaan sarana yang ada diperlukan agar masyarakat mendapatkan pelayanan yang layak, sedangkan bagi operator diperlukan dalam menutupi biaya operasional kendaraan yang telah dikeluarkan. Penelitian dilakukan di 29 trayek angkutan kota melalui survey jumlah penumpang, rute trayek, dan biaya operasional kendaraan. Berdasarkan analisis diperoleh 11 trayek kelebihan armada, 15 trayek kekurangan armada dan 3 trayek sudah sesuai dengan armada yang dioperasikan.

Cold formed steel shear panel is one of the main components to bearing lateral load in low and mid-rise cold formed steel structures. This paper uses finite element analysis to evaluate the stiffness, strength and failure mode at cold formed steel shear panels whit steel sheathing and nonlinear connections that are under monotonic loading. Two finite element models based on two experimental model whit different failure modes is constructed and verified. It includes analytical studies that investigate the effects of studs and steel sheathing thickness changes, fasteners spacing at panel edges, one or two sides steel sheathing and height-width ratio of wall on the lateral load capacity. Dominant failure modes include buckling of steel sheet, local buckling in boundary studs and sheet unzipping in the bottom half of the wall.

The conception and experimental assessment of a removable friction-based shear connector (FBSC) for precast steel-concrete composite bridges is presented. The FBSC uses pre-tensioned high-strength steel bolts that pass through countersunk holes drilled on the top flange of the steel beam. Pre-tensioning of the bolts provides the FBSC with significant frictional resistance that essentially prevents relative slip displacement of the concrete slab with respect to the steel beam under service loading. The countersunk holes are grouted to prevent sudden slip of the FBSC when friction resistance is exceeded. Moreover, the FBSC promotes accelerated bridge construction by fully exploiting prefabrication, does not raise issues relevant to precast construction tolerances, and allows rapid bridge disassembly to drastically reduce the time needed to replace any deteriorating structural component (e.g., the bridge deck). The present study considers a multi-span continuous bridge, isolated by lead rubber bearing (LRB). Dynamic soil-structure interaction (SSI) is modelled with the help of a simplified, sway-rocking model for different types of soil. It is well understood from the literature that SSI influences the structural responses and the isolator performance. However, the above-mentioned effect of SSI also depends on the earthquake ground motion properties. It is very important to understand how the interaction between soil and structure varies with the earthquake ground motion characteristics but, as far as the knowledge of the authors go, no study has been carried out to investigate this effect. The present research deals in two dimensional (2D) transversely isotropic magneto generalized thermoelastic solid without energy dissipation and with two temperatures due to time harmonic sources in Lord-Shulman (LS) theory of thermoelasticity. The Fourier transform has been used to find the solution of the problem. The displacement components, stress components and conductive temperature distribution with the horizontal distance are calculated in transformed domain and further calculated in the physical domain numerically. The effect of two temperature are depicted graphically on the resulting quantities.

Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) is one of the most widely used Additive Manufacturing technologies that extrude a melted plastic filament through a heated nozzle in order to build final physical models layer-by-layer. In this research, a case study is presented in order to optimize process performance of a low cost FDM 3D printer. Taguchi method was first employed for the experimental procedure design and nine test parts were built according to L9 orthogonal array. The examined process parameters were the deposition angle, layer thickness, and infill ratio each one having three levels. Infill pattern was constant to honeycomb selection. This article reviews findings and progresses in the past decade on manganese-aluminium (MnAl) based magnets as the interest has been revived to fulfill their potential as commercial magnets. The challenges in developments of these rare-earth-free magnets are to acquire a high remanence and coercivity from the ferromagnetic τ-phase in MnAl alloys. To this end, the phase transformation to this τ-MnAl with L10 body centered tetragonal structure has been promoted by a variety of methods and a few percents of carbon (C) is often added to prevent the phase decomposition. Magnetization and coercivity are not only influenced by the phase composition but also the microstructure. The fabrication processes and factors affecting the phase and microstructure are therefore covered. Finally, the productions of bulk MnAl magnets are addressed.

Transparency, excellent toughness, thermal stability and a very good dimensional stability make Polycarbonate (PC) one of the most widely used engineering thermoplastics. Polycarbonate market include electronics, automotive, construction, optical media and packaging. One alternative for reducing the environmental pollution caused by polycarbonate from electronic waste (e-waste), is to use it in cement concretes. In this work, physical and chemical characterization of recycled polycarbonate from electronic waste was made, through the analysis by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and scanning electron microscope (SEM).
