Setiap kendaraan memiliki identitas berupa nomor kendaraan atau plat yang resmi dari kepolisian. Sistem pengenal/pengidentifikasi mobil otomatis atau Automatic Licence Plate Recognation (ALPR) telah menjadi salah satu hal yang penting. ALPR dapat diimplementasikan pada berbagai kebutuhan seperti sistem perparkiran, pengawasan jalan tol, pengawasan lalu lintas dan sebagainya. Sistem ini memiliki peranan penting dalam keberhasilan identifikasi karakter/nomor plat kendaraan. Namun, penelitian-penelitian sebelumnya kebanyakan hanya membuat deteksi pada plat kendaraan pribadi atau yang berwarna hitam. Oleh karena itu, pada penelitian ini penulis akan membuat sistem deteksi area plat yang tidak hanya pada plat kendaraan pribadi (hitam), melainkan pada plat kendaraan umum (kuning) dan juga kendaraan milik pemerintah (merah) menggunakan operasi morfologi citra. Hasil dari penelitian ini dari 30 citra uji didapatkan bahwa operasi morfologi citra dapat diterapkan dalam deteksi area plat mobil dengan hasil yang baik.

Now-a-days, the application of the lane surveillance system increases quickly, for example, it is widely settled at the entrance of highways and toll booths to strengthen the traffic management and survey the public security. Accordingly, the size of the captured video data increases over time. So, it is quite important to study how to manage this video data and how to extract useful information from this large amount of video data. In order to process huge volume of data efficiently in traffic video surveillance system, it is very necessary and important to build a highly efficient video management system which uses advanced video compression techniques. This paper presents an improved video management system for lane supervision, which aims at maintaining the traffic surveillance video by analyzing and storing it in such a compressed form that it reduces a considerable amount of storage space and in the mean time also keeps all the information required for the surveillance purposes.

In the today scenario technological intelligence is a higher demand after commodity even in traffic-based systems. These intelligent systems do not only help in traffic monitoring but also in commuter safety, law enforcement and commercial applications. The proposed Saudi Arabia Vehicle License plate recognition system splits into three major parts, firstly extraction of a license plate region secondly segmentation of the plate characters and lastly recognition of each character. This act is quite challenging due to the multiformity of plate formats and the nonuniform outdoor illumination conditions during image collection. In this paper recognition of the license plates is achieved by the implementation of the Learning Vector Quantization artificial neural network. Their results are based upon their completeness in the Saudi Arabia Vehicle License plate character recognition and theirs have obtained encouraging results from proposed technique.
