Product Information

In post-World War II Japan, a janitor finds a deathly ill boy lying beside a metal candy container. The janitor unwittingly tosses the possession into the night, beginning a most unusual tale of survival set amid the atrocities of war in the Animé GRAVE OF FIREFLIES. Brother and sister Seita and Setsuko, ages 14 and 4, flee their disheveled home and deceased parents to make their bid for a new life. Before American troops begin to occupy their country, the children resort to dwelling in an abandoned bomb shelter in the countryside. Though these siblings later get a sense of safety, they realize necessities such as food and water will not be easy to come by.

Awesome movie!!
This is NOT a movie for children! Don't be fooled by the fact that it's animated. It's a very dramatic war story about two children who are orphaned in Japan during WWII and die from radiation poisoning and malnutrition. (I'm not giving anything away by telling you that. The first thing you see in the movie is their ghosts.) My 8-year-old sister watched it with me once, and she was fine with it, but younger children and those who are more sensitive might be traumatized by how sad this movie is! Anyone who is interested in the history of WWII Japan or how the war effected the Japanese in their homeland needs to see this movie. Great Anime Classic!
I love animation movies and this has to be one of the best ones out there. It's about war in Japan where two kids a brother and little sister get separated from their parents. the brother ends up taking care of his sister and they survive by finding what they can eat. It's a heart warming movie that any animation lover should watch.

I knew going in that this movie was a classic. Though it almost has a Miyazaki style, it is definitely not for children. Very sad story. A must see for anime fans. The plot structure is interesting as it is not a typical drama. A must see!!!

Powerful and moving story sad but very good. A must buy movie for teens to adults will want to watch multiple times.
