Throwing my arms round Mum, I pressed an envelope into her hand.
‘Surprise!’ I beamed as she tore it open.
Mum looked at what was inside and gasped.
‘You shouldn’t have, Annaliese!’ she said. ‘This is such a treat.’ It was the day before Mum’s 60th birthday and I’d been trawling the web to find the perfect hotel to take her for her birthday night. We only had one night to get away, so I wanted it to be somewhere special.
I’d booked a grand old hotel in Scarborough, so we could walk along the seafront and enjoy the beautiful views.
