Brent Adams

Brent L. Adams is Dusenberry Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Brigham Young University. From 1976-80 he was Senior Research Engineer for Babcock and Wilcox Company. He has been a professor of materials science at the University of Florida and Carnegie Mellon University, and a professor of mechanical engineering at Yale University and Brigham Young University. He was recipient of a National Science Foundation Presidential Young Investigator Award (1985-1990). Professor Adams directed the team of researchers that developed the orientation imaging microscope, which is now used by over 400 laboratories some 30 countries of the world to advance the development of materials. He is the author of 170 papers and five edited proceedings.

    Introduction

    As a society, we continue to get heavier and heavier. We eat more and exercise less. Televisions get bigger and look more realistic making them more tempting to watch. And the options on television are almost endless.

    Fast foods are so easy. You can drive through or pick up something that is quickly microwaveable. And those foods can taste so good. We eat fast and often.

    Let’s not forget our computers and phones. We communicate too often by sitting and looking at a little screen. Video games consume us. People spend countless hours playing them on their computers, phones, and gaming systems.

    This plan is stable and intended for long term weight loss. Stop riding the roller coaster of weight. Do something that can make a long lasting difference to your health and wellbeing. This plan can do it.

    In my case, it seems the older I get the easier the weight goes on. I woke up this morning waiting 241.2 pounds, the second heaviest I've ever weighed. Officially, my weight and height combine to make me obese. I am 6'2" and 55 years old.

    My mother died at a younger age than I am now from heart disease. Since I take blood pressure medication, it's important to get control of my weight and health. Did I mention, I'm out of shape too. And let's not forget the stressful job that I have.

    The rest of the list of my medical issues include: a form of arthritis called Ankalosing Spondolitis, three knee surgeries, a hernia repair, jaw surgery (broken cartilage on one side and dislocated on the other), and a shoulder with a titanium plate in it. Who knew you were suppose to give up skateboarding after you turn 40.
