Company Overview

igus GmbH, founded by Günter Blase on October 15, 1964, in a double garage in Cologne, Germany, develops and produces motion plastics. Initially a supplier of complex technical polymer components, igus introduced reinforced plastic cable carriers and injection-molded polymer bearings as core products by 1983 under the leadership of Frank Blase. These self-lubricating, high-performance polymers improve technology and reduce costs wherever things move, making igus the worldwide market leader in energy supplies, highly flexible cables, plain and linear bearings, and lead screw technology made of tribo-polymers.

The family-run company, based in Cologne, Germany, is represented in 35 countries and employs 4,600 people worldwide. In 2023, igus generated a turnover of €1.136 billion. Research in the industry's largest test laboratories constantly yields innovations and increased user security. With 234,000 parts available from stock and online service life calculations, igus has expanded by creating internal startups, such as ball bearings, robot drives, 3D printing, the RBTX platform for Low-Cost Robotics, and intelligent "smart plastics" for Industry 4.0.

Notably, the company invests significantly in environmental initiatives, including the "chainge" program for recycling used cable carriers and participating in an enterprise that produces oil from plastic waste. Today, igus is recognized for its innovative, functional, and cost-effective polymer solutions.
