MENTORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

One of the many reasons students choose to attend Portland State University is the strong connection with the local business community. Our mentor programs are designed to provide an opportunity for students to gain clarity on their career goals and develop their network through a mentor relationship with a working professional. Mentorship is one of the best ways to explore career opportunities and practice career networking in a safe and supportive environment. School of Business accounting majors and Graduate Students are encouraged to take advantage of the following mentorship opportunities.

CAREER MENTOR PROGRAM

The Career Mentor Program is designed to help students gain clarity on their career interests, develop their networking skills, and successfully make the transition to the workplace. Mentorship matches can be based on a variety of factors including identity (such as gender, race, first-generation and veteran status, etc.), professional experience, and a mentee’s target industry. If you have questions about how to register for the Career Mentor Program, please email sbcareercenter@pdx.edu.

Program Details

  • Runs from January to June of each year with the expectation that mentors and mentees meet at least once a month
  • Focuses on career exploration, networking skills, developing career materials, interview practice, etc.
  • Matches each student with a mentor for one-on-one mentorship in person, by phone, or virtually
  • Only available to School of Business graduate students who are currently enrolled in a business program.

ACCOUNTING MENTOR PROGRAM

The Accounting Mentor Program is an opportunity for current Master of Taxation, undergraduate, and post-baccalaureate accounting students to discuss their career goals with professional accountants, coming from a variety of fields. The program runs from mid-June through mid-September and the application opens during the Spring term of each year. If you would like to participate in the Accounting Mentor Program in 2024, contact Colleen Sump at csump@pdx.edu.

  • For students to expand their professional networks, request industry-specific advice from alumni, connect to employees at target employers, and more
  • Is available to any School of Business student.
