Abstract This study, presented in a pair of articles, defines a comprehensive methodological approach to the reconstruction of a traditional masonry-timber mansion building constructed in the 1880s of the Turkish house typology on Istanbul’s historical peninsula area that was intentionally demolished in 1948. A historical process research was carried out in the first stage of the study, after which ground penetration radar measurements and an archeological excavation were carried out to determine any possible remains or ruins of the structure, and the original architectural features of the demolished building were ascertained from the obtained data. The proposed stages in the current paper can be considered a comprehensive approach to the determination of the authentic properties of demolished or destroyed buildings in historical areas, given that the methodology allows for the integration of construction features obtained separately and independently through different activities, such as excavations, georadar measurements and historical surveys. The result is a versatile approach to the complete and realistic reconstruction of historical buildings.

Seismic risk mitigation in existing buildings requires an engineering assessment of the current condition and expected seismic performance and an identification of possible deficiencies that should be addressed. For heritage and historical buildings in particular, there is significant benefit in using the most detailed analysis methods available to avoid the conservatism inherent in simpler methods and thereby minimise unnecessary interventions and more precisely pinpoint where strengthening is required. On recent heritage projects, Arup has used the analysis software LS-DYNA and a new material model, calibrated against experimental tests on unreinforced masonry components and buildings to carry out (or supplement) seismic assessments. The analysis method (non-linear response history analysis) is not new, but its application on detailed finite-element models of complex historic structures has previously been computationally prohibitive and requires significant analyst experience to deliver reliable results. This paper summarises three of these recent Arup projects: Woltersum Church (Netherlands), Procuratie Vecchie (Venice) and a building cluster in the historical centre of Appingedam (Netherlands). The case studies show that these analyses allow complex features of seismic performance to be considered, such as damage or modifications to the building over time, pounding (separate buildings colliding into one another due to seismic movements) and load sharing between adjacent structures.

Abstract. In addition to making our daily life easier with the use of it in different areas of our lives, technology continues to be used increasingly with different applications in many sectors.With the increase of developments in the construction sector, which is the locomotive of many sectors, different applications have been used in the field of modelling. But a building needs many projects such as static, dynamic, electricity, installation, furniture, etc. While these sectors are working with different software specific to them, it has been possible to work on these building projects in a single project by the help of BIM (Building Information Modelling).In addition to its function of projecting new buildings, BIM is an important development and building model in terms of preserving historical buildings, easily creating original building details, and transferring them to future generations without deterioration. The term HBIM (Historic / Heritage Building Information Modelling) has been brought to the literature by using the BIM model in historical buildings.The known history of Safranbolu district of Karabük in Turkey dates back to 3000 years. Safranbolu, which has hosted Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk and Ottoman empires in its history, has buildings that are still preserved with their originality. These structures were built in the pre-Ottoman, the Ottoman and the Republic periods.In our study, historical buildings such as houses, commercial houses, places of worship, inns, baths, fountains, and clock towers will be examined. Building models and distinctive features were examined to classify these structures by modeling them with BIM.While the differentiation of the buildings can be made easily by the building model, the distinguishing features of the houses built in different periods or by different civilizations were also determined in order to distinguish the housing types.While structures such as baths, clock towers or inns are not in a number that can be classified, it has been observed that there are residences, businesses and places of worship that can be classified. It has been determined that it is possible to classify the buildings by their materials, building sizes and shapes, and by their other features that can be used to classify.

Baoding of Hebei province is a national historical and cultural city with a history of more than 3,000 years. There are abundant cultural relics and historic sites in Baoding with high historical and cultural value. However, due to the rapid development of urbanization and the changes of the natural environment, coupled with the lack of experience and effort in the protection, historical buildings in Baoding have gradually been damaged or even disappeared in the course of history. In view of this, this research combines empirical investigations and in-depth interviews, and analyzes the problems and utilization strategies in the protection of historic buildings in Baoding.

Abstrakt: Na terenie Zakopanego znajduje się ok. 1361 obiektów zabytkowych, z których 1180 to drewniane wille, reprezentujące styl zakopiański, powstałe w okresie od końca XIX w. do 20-lecia międzywojennego. Tak intensywne nagromadzenie drewnianych brył zakopiańskich willi ukształtowało tożsamość miejsca opartą o ład przestrzenny, stosowną skalę i proporcję. Wille stanowią wartość ze względu na historię i tradycję. Niestety, zabudowa ta jest obecnie wypierana przez inwestycje deweloperskie, które niszczą krajobraz miasta. Takie działania ułatwiają niekorzystne zapisy w miejscowych planach przestrzennych, uchwalone w latach 2009–2012. Często dochodzi do celowych podpaleń zabytków w celu pozyskania nowych gruntów inwestycyjnych. W artykule omówiono zabytkowe wille, które w ostatnich latach zostały zdewastowane lub zburzone, ukazano uwarunkowania formalno-prawne oraz mechanizmy działania. Wskazano rozwiązania, które mogą przyczynić się do lepszej ochrony konserwatorskiej zabytkowych obiektów architektury świeckiej. Summary: There are around 1,361 historic buildings in Zakopane, of which 1,180 are timber mountain houses of Zakopane style built from the end of the 19th century to the times of the Second Polish Republic (1918–1939). Such an accumulation of timber buildings in the local style formed an identity to the area based on spatial organization, scale and proportions. The mountain houses are valuable due to their history and tradition. Unfortunately, these structures are now superseded by investments in new developments which destroy the townscape. Such activities are facilitated by unfavorable provisions in local spatial development plans adopted during the years 2009–2012. Quite often historical buildings are deliberately set on fire in order to secure new land for investments. The article describes historic mountain houses which have been devastated or demolished in recent years. It presents the formal and legal conditions that allowed for this and the mechanisms of action. It also presents solutions which can help develop better preservation and protection of historic secular buildings.

Sumatra is one of the provinces in Indonesia that has great heritage tourism potential. The existence of attractive cultural buildings and traditional transportation is the particular character of heritage tourism. Heritage tourism significant benefits the economy and quality of life by showing the particular character of local people and culture. ​This study was conducted to compare particular characters with similar heritage tourism in Sumatra using a concurrent mixed-method. This study indicates monumental historical buildings and traditional transportation with particular characters significantly attract tourists and influence their intention to visit and revisit.
