    In Spanish there are 3 types of infinitives. They end in “ar”, “er”, and “ir”
     hablar – to speak
     comer – to eat These are some common regular verbs.
     vivir – to live

    We do not always use infinitives when communicating. Instead we conjugate


    these verbs. Conjugating means that we change the verb to agree with the
    subject. To conjugate a verb means to make a systematic list of all of its
    various forms.

    The stem of the verb is the infinitive minus the –ar, -er, or –ir (example: the
    stem of hablar is habl). Different endings are added to the stem for each
    subject.

    Subject pronouns

    Singular Plural
    I Yo We Nosotros/
    nosotras
    You (familiar) Tú
    He Él They (masculine) Ellos
    She Ella They (feminine) Ellas
    You (formal) usted You (plural) Ustedes

    The following chart has the –ar endings for each subject pronoun.

    Singular Plural
    Yo -o Nosotros/ -amos
    nosotras
    Tú -as
    Él Ellos
    Ella -a Ellas -an
    Usted Ustedes
    Below is the conjugation of the verb hablar.

    Hablar- to speak
    Yo hablo Nosotros/ hablamos
    nosotras
    Tú hablas
    Él Ellos
    Ella habla Ellas hablan
    Usted Ustedes

    Write the stems for each of the verbs below:

    escuchar trabajar saltar nadar


    cocinar comprar estudiar
    caminar llevar cantar
    mirar contestar

    Write the –ar endings for each subject pronoun below.
