Dear Parents;
I hope that you have all settled into the school year and that your children are finding themselves comfortable in their classrooms and school. We have certainly been busy making friends, learning our routine and expectations of the classroom, and having fun! The children have been active in the classroom, exploring the many centers and activities we provide for them each week. In addition to our curriculum, our main focuses these last couple of weeks have been responsibility, independence, relationships, and respect for one another. Sincerely, Mrs. Arianna Carlson 4

Our theme this month will be our Five Senses. The children will explore their sense of sight, smell, taste, touch and hearing in variety of fun and exciting activities and games. We will also be focusing on the letters Gg, Aa, and Dd, the sounds that they make and the words that start with these letters. Thank you to our Busy Bee helpers for assembling the mini letter books for the children. These books will be used throughout the year and will show the childrens progress from the beginning to the end of the year. Ive had many Busy Bee moms helping me out this last month and I thank each of you for your hardwork. It certainly helps me in the classroom. The children have enjoyed the shapes Naomis mom, Charmaine, cut for us as we sang and danced to the Shape Hokie Pokie while waving our shapes up high. Its always fun to add movement to learning as well as using our visual and auditory senses. In addition to celebrating our Septemeber Star Keiki, Sophie Tarr, we will also be celebrating Johnny Appleseeds Birthday on the 26th with

a fun cooking activity and apple stamping. A notice will go out later next week, but we will be asking each child to bring their favorite apple (red, yellow or green) to school. We will then graph to see which apples are our favorites, cut them and explore their insides, as well as use them for apple stamping and baking! Ethans mom, Renae, has volunteered to make a yummy apple treat with the children. I hope she meant it when she offered at the potluck. :) We cant wait! On the 13th of the this month, NHKS is hosting their Open House. Together with our neighbors, Mrs. Cantys class, we will join in a small potluck and social. Please see note above regarding what we are responsible for bringing. It seems that have a lot of grandparents and familiy visiting this month and I want to be sure that you all know that my door is equally open for any family members that want to come in and spend some time in the classroom. For example, if grandparents want to read a story at dismissal or make an art project, please let me know. We have happy news to share today (it gives me goosebumps just thinking about it!) Reeds dad, Brain, is coming home from over a year of deployment. Katie and the boys are picking him up from the airport as I type. We
