Selectively blocks the binding of angiotensin II to specific tissue receptors found in the vascular smooth muscle and adrenal gland; this action blocks the vasoconstriction effect of the renin- angiotensin system, as well as the release of aldosterone, leading to the decrease of BP.
Common side effects Hypotension, palpitations. Asthma, dyspnea, epistaxis, pain, dizziness, UTI, flu like symptoms, diarrhea, fatigue, myalgia, N&V. abdominal pain, Cough, Pharyngitis, chest pain
Interactions with other patient drugs, OTC or herbal medicines (ask patient specifically) Increase digoxin peak plasma levels
