    Mechanism of action and indications (Why med ordered)


    Client is receiving this medication for HTN.

    Selectively blocks the binding of angiotensin II to specific tissue receptors found in the vascular smooth muscle and adrenal gland; this action blocks the vasoconstriction effect of the renin- angiotensin system, as well as the release of aldosterone, leading to the decrease of BP.

    Common side effects Hypotension, palpitations. Asthma, dyspnea, epistaxis, pain, dizziness, UTI, flu like symptoms, diarrhea, fatigue, myalgia, N&V. abdominal pain, Cough, Pharyngitis, chest pain

    Interactions with other patient drugs, OTC or herbal medicines (ask patient specifically) Increase digoxin peak plasma levels

    Lab value alterations caused by medicine


    Increase in CR decrease in HG

    Be sure to teach the patient the following about this medication


    Take at same time daily, lifestyle changes : regular exercise, stop smoking, low salt intake, healthy diet, low stress. Use caution may experience dizziness, change positions slowly. Come to all F/U assessments for signs and symptoms of adverse effects.

    Monitor vital signs. BP, CR levels (hepatic functioning)
