Tutorial 2 Control System

This document contains a tutorial on transfer functions and block diagram reduction techniques. It provides 6 problems for students to practice obtaining transfer functions from block diagrams by first reducing the diagrams to single blocks using block diagram reduction rules, then determining the overall transfer function. It also has students draw signal flow graphs and use Mason's gain formula to solve one problem and check the answer against the block diagram method.

4. Obtain the transfer function C(s)/R(s) for block diagram in figure below.

H1 R(s) + G1 + H2 H3 G2 + G3 C (s)

5. Draw a signal flow graph for question 4, 5 and 6. Identify input node, output node, loop forward path and non-touching loop.

6. Firstly reduce the block diagram as shown below, using block reduction technique, to a single block. Then obtain its equivalent signal flow graph and using Masons gain formula, determine the overall system transfer function. Compare your answer with that obtained by the first method.
