Properties
Distributive Property - Multiplying a sum by a number is the same as multiply each addend by the number and adding the two products together. Ex: 6 x 57 = (6 x 50) + (6 x 7) . Commutative Property - Changing the order of addends or factors does not change the sum or product. Ex: 3+5 = 5+3 or 2 x 6 = 6 x 2 . Associative Property - Changing the grouping of addends or factors does not change the product or the sum. Ex: (4+2) + 10 = 4 + (2+10)

4(7x - 3) + 2x
To simplify this expression, rst, use the distributive property to simply the expression down. Then, now having 28x - 12 + 2x, combine the like terms in the expression. After combining like terms, the expression is simplied to 30x - 12.

7x - 10 - 9x = -13
To solve this equation, rst, combine like terms. So, take 7x, and subtract it from 9x. This will get you a -2x. After combining like terms, the equation will be -2x 10 = -13. Then, you must isolate the variable by adding a positive ten to the subtract ten, causing it to cancel out. But, what you do to one side of the equation, you must do it to the other. Knowing this, add a positive ten to the negative thirteen. Next, you have -2x = -3. Divide (inverse operation) the negative two by itself to cancel it out, isolating the variable. Then, do this to the other side. However, when you try and divide the negative three by a negative two, it turns into a positive (negative/negative=positive) 3/2. This will then be simplied to a 1 and 1/2. In conclusion, x equals 1 and 1/2.

5x/6 + x/3 - 1/2 = 11/6

First, nd the LCD of all the denominators in the equation. In this case, it is 6. Divide the denominators into the LCD, and multiply that by the numerator. Then, combine the like terms in the equation 5x + 2x - 3 = 11. After combining the like terms, the equation will read, 7x - 3 = 11. Then, to isolate the variable, add a positive three to both sides of the equation. The equation will then read 7x = 13. Lastly, divide both sides of the equation by seven, again to isolate the variable. After, you will nd that x =

2 < x/-5
Solve and graph this inequality. First, you must isolate the variable by multiply both sides of the equation by a negative ve. Then, you will be left with -10 > x or x < -10. You might have noticed that I changed the equality sign. This is because when you multiply or divide by a negative, you reverse the inequality symbol. Next, you will need to graph this inequality. When you read the inequality, it reads that x is less than or equal to negative ten. You will write this on a number line. You might notice that the dot on the number line is lled in. This means that the -10 is part of the solution for x. If it is not lled in, it means that is not a part of the solution for x. x < -10.

-4x + 4 > -8
Solve and graph this inequality. First, subtract four from both sides of the equation. This will leave the equation like -4x > -12. Then, isolate the variable by dividing by a negative four on both sides of the equation. (Dont forget to switch the inequality sign!) This will leave you with a answer or x is less than or equal to 3.

Whats the difference between an open or a closed circle while graphing inequalities?

Closed circle - indicates that the number is a part of the solution for the unknown variable. Open circle - Indicates that the number is not a part of the solution for the unknown variable.
