Analysis and Interpretation of Data and Result

The mass of cylinder, mass and volume of sample as measured appear in the preliminary data sheet or PDS. Also included in the PDS are the computed density and specific weight of each trial. As part of this experiment, the theoretical values of density of the sample were calculated first by each group for each measured value. In this calculation the formula used was Density = Mass of Sample/ Volume of Sample. With the given formula and measured value, the calculated density of water was 992. 16 Kg/ . Also the Specific weight was calculated using the .

formula: Specific Weight= Volume/ Mass and is equal to 9.733 kN/

A comparison between the Accepted Value and Theoretical value of density and Specific weight shows 0.61% and 0.59% difference. In general the measured values are higher than the accepted values. Several errors could explain the differences: Precision error in reading the volume of the sample. The last type of error mentioned, the error in the atmospheric error for the locale where the experiment occurred is a bias error that could be quite significant, depending on the difference in conditions between the time of the experiment and the time that the reference measurement was made.

Conclusion: Overall, experiment shows that as the volume of the sam the Differences existed ,these differences, however, can be accounted for by experimental error.

Answers to Questions: 1. What will happen to the density of liquid if heated from lower to higher temperature? Will density increase or decrease? Why? The density of a liquid when heated decreases since the volume will increase. This happen because the molecules have been separated far apart making it easy for the volume to increase. 2. What may be the causes of the difference in specific weights of water taken from different sources?

3. A liquid is 50 cubic feet and 2, 653 pounds. Determine its density, specific weight, and specific volume using both English and SI units.
