DETT 607: Instructional Design and Course Development in Distance Education and E-Learning

What I knew about the course prior to taking it: I entered this course having a good idea of what is involved in planning a course, although, my course development experience had only been with face-to-face and not online or hybrid courses. I knew the main activity would be to design an online course, and I was excited to make my Oral Radiology course go live! What I learned from the course: I learned there are many people involved in creating and initiating a successful distance educational course. I learned: - What a management plan was and how to implement such a plan. - The necessity of reviewing the roles of all faculty in the planning of the course -The need to identify all possible challenges with which the students and the faculty will be faced and come up with solutions as needed -There is more than one good solution to any problematic situation and it is best to consider all options -Roles of the course design team need to be clearly identified

How I plan to use this course to excel in my profession:

When the opportunity presents itself, I will market my Oral Radiology course as a hybrid course to the Maryland State Board of Dental Examiners. I believe this course will reach prospective dental assistants who are not able to sit in a classroom due to work, life and family obligations. When the course is marketed and accepted by an educational institution, I will need to spend much time with the IT department! Videos will be a major part of the course for identification (ID) and demonstration purposes. The ID videos are a precursor to the demonstration videosthe former provided essential land marks for film/sensor placement shown in the later.
