ICT

About the course


New technologies are constantly being developed in the digital world, and the study of ICT explores the production, implementation and impact of these new technologies on societies around the globe. You will study the theoretical aspects of ICT through practical tasks and will be given numerous opportunities to use various pieces of software and develop your practical skills. At AS, you will design, implement, test and document a system of your creation, and will also study the legal implications in the world of ICT. The A2 course will build upon this knowledge, and you will explore the management of ICT and its use within business, alongside designing and evaluating a complex system that you design, build, implement and test.

How will I be assessed?


Units 1, 2, and 3 are assessed by external examination, in the summer term. Unit 4 is assessed through coursework, which is internally marked and externally moderated and worth 20% of the overall qualication.

AS: Unit 1 - Practical Problem Solving in the Digital World Unit 2 - Living in the Digital World A2: Unit 3 - The Use of ICT in the Digital World Unit 4 - Practical Issues Involved in the Use of ICT in the Digital World

Additional minimum entry requirements:


C in GCSE English.

If you have an interest in the world of ICT and wish to pursue a career in its related elds, then this is the course for you. You need to be motivated to carry out independent study and have good communication and teamwork skills to be successful on this course.

Where can it take me?


Students who have successfully completed this course have gone on to study Computing, Software Development and Teaching at university and others have pursued careers as a Systems Analyst and Network Technician. 23
