Police Launch New Traffic Enforcement Program

Speed Enforcement to Play Major Role in Implementation
Riverside Police Department initiated a new year-long education/enforcement program aimed at reducing speed on our roadways through special enforcement and public awareness. Riverside Police will aid in the Villages ongoing effort to improve traffic safety and quality of life. The program is managed by Sgt. Bill Gutschick (708-447-2127, x-279 or wgutschick@riverside.il.us) who said, Riverside Police officers are dedicated to making roadways safer for Riverside motorists. Well combine our aggressive enforcement efforts with public education to ensure continued motorist safety throughout the year. The new program will help deal with traffic safety problems and reduce the number of drivers speeding throughout the Village. Activities that the program will address include:

DUI Saturation Patrols Distracted driving enforcement Seat belt and child safety seat enforcement Speed, red light and stop sign enforcement Specialized high visibility speed enforcement in residential areas

Chief Tom Weitzel stated, Our Traffic Enforcement Program addresses chronic problems in neighborhoods specifically those involving streets used as cut-throughs (to avoid traffic on major arterials), and those having excessive traffic flow due to school locations. These chronic problems affect our residents and students who live and attend school in these areas and are seeking some relief from heavy traffic flow and excessive speeds. The program will start in late January with speed enforcement on residential streets.
