Module 6 - Transfer Functions

The equivalent transfer function of three parallel blocks G1(s), G2(s), and G3(s) is the sum of the individual transfer functions. The equivalent transfer function of three cascaded blocks G1(s), G2(s), and G3(s) is the product of the individual transfer functions. The transfer function of a negative feedback system is the forward path transfer function G(s) divided by 1 plus the product of the forward and feedback path transfer functions G(s)H(s).

19. (A) Between e
1
and e
2
, there are two parallel path.
Combining them gives t t
a b
+ . Between e
2
and e
4
there
is a path given by total gain t t
c d
. So remove node e
3
and place gain t t
c d
of the branch e e
2 4
. Hence option (A)
is correct.
20. (A) Option (A) is correct. Best method is to check
the signal flow graph. In block diagram there is
feedback from 4 to 1 of gain -H H
1 2
. The signal flow
graph of option (A) has feedback from 4 to 1 of gain
-H H
1 2
.
21. (C) Consider the block diagram as SFG. There are
two feedback loop -G G H
1 2 1
and -G G H
2 3 2
and one
forward path G G G

. So (D) is correct option.

forward path G G

and three loops
- - - G G H G H G H
1 2 2 2 1 3 2

There are no nontouching loop. So (B) is correct.
