The Riverside Police Department collected 51 pounds of unused and expired prescription medications during a national drug take-back event on September 27, 2014. Officer Mike Panek joined the DEA's initiative to allow the public to safely dispose of unwanted medications in order to combat misuse and abuse. This amount was a slight increase from the previous collection and the police consider the event a success in removing drugs from circulation.

Police Combat Misuse and Abuse of Prescription Medications

On Saturday, September 27,
2014, in order to combat the
misuse and abuse of prescription
medications, Officer Mike Panek,
of the Riverside Police
Department, joined the Drug
Enforcement Administration
(DEA) Chicago Field Division in a
National Prescription Drug Take-
Back. This initiative allows the public to safely and effectively dispose of unused
prescription medication. The outstanding participation of the public allowed the
Riverside Police Department to collect 51lbs of prescription and over-the-counter
medications. This is a slight increase from the 49lbs collected on April 26th, and
the Riverside Police Department considers this a success.
The Riverside Police Department encourages all to inform friends and family of
this beneficial event and to stay tuned for future collection dates.
