Lesson Plan #2

7-4: Indirect Measurement Part B

Teacher: Michael Schmidt
Topic: Right Angle Trigonometry
Length of Lesson: 50-60 minutes
Goals and Objectives

Mathematical Goals:
o Students will be introduced to right angle trigonometry
o Student will be understand and use the following new terms:
Adjacent angle
Adjacent side
Opposite angle
Opposite side
Tangent
Mathematical Objective:
o Use the tangent ratio to measure length indirectly

Previous Knowledge:

Students have been working with similar figures and proportions

Materials:

Loose paper for students who need it

Textbooks
Calculators

Lesson Overview:
This lesson will introduce the students to the trigonometry with right triangles. The students
will learn how to identify adjacent and opposite legs and angles. The lesson will focus on the tangent
ratio and provide students with opportunities to use the tangent ratio in order to indirectly measure
unknown lengths of right triangle legs.
