Unit: Tennis Grade: 5th Lesson Activity: Forehand Shot

Lesson: #1 Class Size: 15

Instructional Objectives (Skill, Condition, Criteria):

Cognitive (Know) Students will know when to use a forehand


shot in tennis,

Psychomotor (Does) Students will be able to complete a proper


forehand shot.
Affective (Values) Students will be involved in many different
activities. They will want to participate and have fun. Students
will learn spacial awareness with regards to using and swinging a
tennis racquet.
Equipment:

NASPE Content Standard

20 Tennis balls, 2 Tennis nets , 15 tennis rackets, Wii, 4 Wii


controllers, Wii Tennis Game.

Safety Considerations:

Lesson focus: Forehand Shot

Keep students spaced out.

Introduction/Warm-up/ Fitness Development Explain the


forehand shot, tell the students when and what it is used for.

Make sure they understand importance of communication so they


dont run into one another.

Activity #1- Students in groups of four play Wii Tennis practicing


the motion of a forehand shot.

Activity #2 Students partner up and use the forehand shot to hit


ball to your partner.
Culmination activity - Four students on each side, students use
forehand shot to volley back and forth. Students only use their
forehand shot to get the ball over the net.

Modifications: / Adaptations:
Rotate partners throughout. Modify by bringing partner closer or
hitting ball against a wall.

Assessment: Students can use proper technique and execution to


use the forehand shot. Students know when to use the forehand
shot. Observation assessment will be used to see how students are
performing the skill.

Using the Wii students play Wii tennis and return shots back
and forth using the forehand shot. Rotating after every game
while students not playing practice the forehand shot motion.

Students hit the ball back to one another using the forehand
shot. Students rotate partners every 1 minute to work with
different people. The first line of students moves to the right
while the second line stays.

multiple forehand shots.
