Math This week we worked on calculating elapsed time, calculating temperature change,
and how to make a table to solve word problems. We ended the week by reviewing our topic. Monday students will take their topic test. Our next unit will be a breath of fresh air compared to
the last few we have had. Our next topic will be on inequalities and expressions. We will be back
to working on our addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division skills.
Reading
Next week we will not be doing a regular weekly reading story. Instead we will be
investigating mysteries! Students have showed an interest in mysteries as of recent, so I have
based next weeks reading plans around 5 of the biggest mysteries of all times: Amelia Earhart,
Bermuda Triangle, Stonehenge, Loch Ness Monster, and Bigfoot. We will work on citing evidence in
the text. It will be a fun week of investigating and theorizing!
Grammar With no new reading story next week and thus no new grammar skill, we will
spend the week reviewing the grammar skills we have covered so far: Punctuation, Subject/
Object Pronouns, Pronouns and Antecedents, and Possessive Pronouns.
Writing Students finished up and turned in state reports and powerpoints today. Next week
students will sign up for a day to present after break. Next week I will give students in-class
time to finish up their DARE essays which are due next Thursday. The essays were assigned
over 2 weeks ago. Students must turn in an essay in order to graduate from DARE.
Science We spend the week learning about food chains, food webs, and what roles decomposers play in the ecosystem. We will be spending our Science time next week doing a research activity. Students will choose an organism to create a powerpioint on. They must identify the organisms adaptations, habitat, role in the ecosystem, its food chain/web. This will apply all of
the skills we have learned about so far in this unit.
