Riverside Police Officer Addresses Riverside Brookfield High School

Drivers Education Class on Alcohol, Drugs and Driving
Officer Brian Greenenwald, an 8 year veteran of the
Riverside Police Department, addressed 30 RBHS
students during their Drivers Education class on
Wednesday morning.
The topics that were
discussed included underage drinking, zero
tolerance laws in Illinois as well as Driving Under the
Influence of Alcohol or Drugs. The 50 minute
discussion ended with the students having an
opportunity to wear the Fatal Vision goggles and
attempt field sobriety tests while impaired using the
goggles.
I recently arrested an RBHS student for driving under the influence of alcohol and was pretty
shocked by her ignorance regarding the laws and consequences of her actions. I reached out to
RBHS Drivers Ed teacher Jason Rech and he welcomed me to discuss the problems that youth
cause when they get behind the wheel impaired. I believe it was a good experience for the students
and felt I was able to answer a lot of their questions regarding the law.
The Riverside Police Department looks forward to continuing this program with the cooperation of
RBHS and educate the drivers of the future about alcohol laws and the effects of driving impaired.
