Roll No._______________
B.TECH.(CIVIL)
END SEMESTEREXAMINATION- V SEM
DEC-JAN2015
STRUCTURE ANALYSIS II

Time : 3 Hrs.
Maximum Marks : 70
Instructions
(a) Use of non programmable scientific calculator is permitted.
(b) Working Notes should form part of answer copy.
(c) Use of pencil or pen other than blue or black is not permitted.
SECTION - A
(30 Marks)
Attempt any 5 questions.
All questions carry equal marks.

1. Find the horizontal displacement point B of the frame ABCD by unit load method.
Assume EI to be constant for all members.

2. Consider a propped cantilever (of constant flexural rigidity EI, and span L), which is
carrying a UDL of W KN/m. calculate the support reaction using force method.
Support at A is fixed and at B is roller.

3. Determine the vertical deflection of joint D of the truss. Take E= 200 GPa, and
member areas A = 1000 mm2 for all member except AE and BD where A = 1000 X
2^0.5 mm2. All lengths of member is in meter.

4. Obtain an expression of maximum tension for a cable subjected to UDL as shown in

figure.

5. Three hinged open spandrel arch bridge shown in the fig below has parabolic shape
and supports the uniform load calculate the moment at the point

6. Draw the influence line diagram for the force in the member CG of the bridge truss
shown in the figure support A is hinge and B is roller.

SECTION - B

(20 Marks)

Attempt any 2 questions.

All question carry equal marks.

7. Determine the maximum compressive force developed in member BG of the side truss due
to the right side wheel loads of the car and trailor. Assume the load are applied directly to
the truss and move only to the right.

8. The cross sectional area of each member of the truss is A=400 mm 2 and E=200 GPa.
(A) Determine the vertical displacement of joint C if a 4 KN force is applied to the
truss at C (B) if no load acts on the truss, what would be the vertical displacement of
joint C if member AB were 5 mm too short.

(b) Determine the support moments at A,B,C and D for the continuous girder.
9. Determine the support reaction as shown in the figure below support A is fixed and
B is roller.

SECTION C
(COMPULSARY)

10. Determine the forces in member AC of the truss using force method.
