In This Issue
In this newsletter various websites and programs will be
discussed that will aid in creating a positive learning environment in a
classroom. These programs will help to keep students engaged in the
classroom and will help clarify any difficulties in the learning process.
In this issue there are also various resources for teachers to use for
themselves, that will make them more knowledgeable about a
variety of topics within the classroom.

Educating through Edmodo
Edmodo is a website that can be used by teachers, parents,

and students. I will be uing Edmodo to put my students home-
work online so they can complete it at home and turn it in

through the website. I will also use Edmodo to give badges to
students when they complete an assignment or do something well.
This will help to boost their confidence in future assignments.
Edmodo is helpful for parents because it allows them to log in to
Edmodo and view their childs progress and any upcoming

assignments. Edmodo is also set up in a familiar format to both
parents and students., making it easy to navigate for all users.
Prezi Presentations
Prezi is an online software similar to PowerPoint. Prezi presentations are useful in complimenting the various lessons that I will be
teaching. Prezi is extremely useful in because it is free and web-based
so that I can login and access the presentations anywhere with an internet connection. Prezi is also great for presentation because media
such as images, videos, and audio clips are easily inserted into the
presentation. This allows me to easily insert media into a presentation, this will aid in keeping my students engaged and will help to
clarify any content areas that may be hard for them to comprehend.

Microsoft Word
Microsoft Word is a program that can be used in a variety of
ways in the classroom. It can be used to create the lesson plans I will
use to educate my students. Microsoft Word can also be used to create Venn diagrams and other graphs to aid in the teaching of various
topics. For example, when teaching a lesson about vertebrates and invertebrates, I can
create a Venn diagram on Word to compare and contrast the two. Graphs like these
will help the students better understand the material being taught to them while also
keeping them engaged. I will use Microsoft Office to create the tests and quizzes that
will be administered to my students in the classroom. I will also use Microsoft Word
to send letters home to parents to keep them informed about what their child is learning and any upcoming events that they need to know about. I will also create posters
for the classroom that will explain the expectations of the students in school. Microsoft
Word can be used n copious amounts of ways to keep students engaged and to
promote learning for all students.
Promethean Planet
Promethean planet is a program that includes many free teaching
resources, lesson plans, worksheets, and activities. It is for all of these
reasons, that Promethean Planet is a useful device to use when teaching
students. For example, if I was teaching my students a lesson about
subtraction, I would then go onto the Promethean Planet website and
download a subtraction game to reinforce the students learning process.
The game would keep the students interested and would also help them
practice the new material. Various worksheets and assignments can also be
found on Promethean Planet that can be used to assess students abilities.

Animoto
Animoto is an online program that allows teachers and

students to create various videos. As a teacher, I will personally
use Animoto to create videos to insert into my lessons. These
videos could be used to clarify information that students may find
difficult. Also, I can create an assignment in which students must
create their own Animoto video about a specific topic of
discussion within a unit. For example, if I were to teach a lesson on
habitats, I would give each student a different habitat to create an
Animoto video about. Animoto is especially useful because you
can easily create videos on different forms of technology devices.
Cloud Computing
Cloud computing is the storing and accessing of various
programs over the internet rather than through a computers hard
drive. Two examples of cloud computing include Microsoft Office 365
and Google Drive. Cloud computing is useful because the documents
saved in the cloud can be accessed anywhere. I can use cloud
computing as a teacher by saving my lesson plans and other class
assignments in the cloud. This would in turn allow me to access my
documents
anywhere at anytime. Cloud computing is also useful
because if I save documents to the cloud rather than my computers

hard drive, if my computer crashes, the documents will not be lost.

Youtube
Youtube is a website that people of all ages have come to be familiar with. However,
many may not realize how useful Youtube can be in the classroom. For example, I can use
Youtube to set a video watch homework assignment that relates to the next days lesson. If
I were to teach a history lesson about one of the presidents, I would have the students
watch a video about that specific president the night before. This is useful because students
come into the lesson with some prior knowledge. Youtube can also be used to present a
large amount of material in a short period of time. When I teach a lesson that is fairly heavy
in content, I will use a Youtube video to supplement my lesson to get the information out to
the students. Youtube videos are also particularly useful because students love to watch
videos, this results in them maintaining their interest on material that they might otherwise
think as boring. Of course, I will view all videos before using them in lessons, to assure that
they are appropriate for my students. I can also create playlists on the Youtube website so
when I log in to my account, the videos I wish to use in my lesson will be readily available.
Microsoft PowerPoint
Microsoft PowerPoint is a downloadable software that can be used on the computer.
Microsoft PowerPoint is especially useful in the creating of presentations. Microsoft PowerPoint is user friendly and it is easy to add hyperlinks into a presentation. I will use Microsoft
PowerPoint in the classroom to make presentations about the content my students are
learning. When giving a presentation, I will print out the PowerPoint slides that I will be
going over so that each student could have their own copy to take extra
notes on. When creating a PowerPoint presentation, I will keep in mind
to not include too much text, bad photography, and fonts that are
difficult for children to read.
