A2 Media Studies - Formal Proposal For Documentary

Our proposal for our documentary is as follows:

Topic
As a group, our final decision with regards to the topic of the documentary is
to produce a Boxing documentary. The main focal point of our text is the
mental and physical preparation a boxer and boxing trainers go through
before a fight. Moreover the struggle between classes will also be addressed
within the narrative.
Type of Documentary
The type of documentary we are going to produce will share elements form a
number of filming modes. Include the use interviews, possible archive
footage, and ideally live footage of a boxing match. By taking elements from
the participatory mode the documentary will become more humanised as this
style of filing focuses on the person, rather than the sport. However filming
methods will be taken form the expository mode, allowing the audience to feel
more omniscient in relation to the events on screen.
Style of Documentary
The Documentary will be portrayed in a linear format, consisting of various cinematic
shots of the boxing gym and boxers alike. The Documentary will ask the questions on
presentation of class throughout the sport, and if both the middle and lower classes
are represented equally, if not why is this the case. We also want to make the
audience aware of the different training methods involved, depending on the fighter.
Target Audience
In terms of target audience the documentary will cater more for the male audience.
This is because stereotypically boxing is a male dominated sport. Age I do not
believe is a factor as boxing can be enjoyed by all ages.
Narrative
The narrative structure of the documentary will be presented in the linear format and
expressed though the participatory mode, where by the interviews take on a personal
persona. The interviews will be broken up by various cinematic shot of boxing
matches giving it a more omniscient feel.
