Students will understand the most important events of the 1970s and how these events could have
influenced music from the time.

Give three examples of events that were discussed today from the 1970s and describe these events in a few
sentences.

Every student will be able to: Explain events that shaped the 1970s.
I can: I can explain events that shaped the 1970s as a country and a world and then express how some of these
events could have effected music.
This means: This means I understand the most influential events of the 1970s and can explain them in a few

This lesson will take the entire class and students will not need any
materials. All materials will be provided for them on the smart board.
Students will begin class by watching a few clips from the 1970s CNN
documentary.
The documentary is on Nextflix so the link provided goes to the CNN
website that gives background on the documentary. The clips shown
will prepare students for the key information that we will be discussing
during the 1970s phase of this unit.

- Class discussion/ links to music (modeling, teacher input, guided
group practice)
- Wrap up CNN video for closure (unguided whole group)
For closure of this lesson we will end by returning to the CNN video and
watching more short clips from it that dive deeper into the discussions
that we had after lecturing, continuing to elaborate on the background
and being visually appealing.
The video should meet all of the needs of students that do not have
much background on these issues prior to lecture however during
lecture I will be able to answer any lingering questions that students

Students will be assessed at the end of class with a ticket out the door
activity that refrences the essential question. Students will be asked to
describe the sound/ look of the British Invasion and some of the ways it
influenced music.
