    I recently found myself in a real lemon of a

    quilting experience--I needed to unpick all of the


    quilting from a fairly large quilt. I fretted, I cried,
    and more than anything, I was frustrated that
    a quilt I had once loved so much, would likely
    always be associated with negative feelings.
    But I was wrong. The un-picking party that
    filled my house with the sweetest of friends
    (and the yummiest of cheesecake) ended up
    infusing the quilt with sweeter memories than I
    could ever have put into it myself. I think thats
    what I love most about quilting--it brings people
    together. When life gets sour, quilters can be the
    sweetener that turns lemons into lemonade.

    Finished Block Size 6 x 6

    6 squares - 2 x 2 of assorted, light fabrics (A)

    Curved units
    1. To create the curved units, pair each yellow convex
    curve piece with a white concave curve piece, right sides
    together (the angles of the curves will be going in opposite
    directions).
    2. Pin the center point, followed by the right and left ends. Ease
    in the remaining edges and pin.
    3. Stitch seam then press seam toward the yellow.

    Preparation
    1. Cut 2 template A from 2 - yellow fabric C 2 x 2 squares
    2. Cut 2 template B from 2 - light fabric A 2 x 2 squares
    Block Assembly
    Half square triangle unit (HST)
    1. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of
    6 light fabric A - 2 x 2 squares.
    2. Align each light fabric A square with a green fabric B or coral
    fabric D - 2 x 2 square, right sides together, and pin
    along the drawn line. Stitch seam on either side of the
    drawn line.
    3. Cut the units in half on the drawn line, then press seam
    toward the darker fabric.
    4. Trim the half square triangle units to 2 x 2 square.

    Finishing the block


    1. Assemble the block by laying out all 16 units in 4 rows of
    4 units each.
    2. Stitch into rows, pressing seams in alternating directions,
    then join rows and press.
    3. Unfinished block size 6 x 6

    5. Make 8 - fabric A / Fabric B half square triangles (HST).


    6. Make 4 fabric A / fabric D half square triangles (HST).
