Sardar sarovar dam


Situated at: narmada river and is spread over 3 states (gujrat, maharashtra and madhya pradesh) Cause of conflict: loss to wildlife: a massive loss of wildlife species is apprehended due to devastation of the forests under the project. species like tigers, panthers, bears, wolves, pangolins, hyenas, jackals, flying squirrels and antelopes, black bucks, chinkara, mash crocodile, turtles etc were displaced from there natural habitat.

Narmada valley project lead to displacement of more than one million people. Uprooting of the tribals and they were forced to shift to far-flung areas. This would also affect their myths, beliefs, culture, festivals, songs etc Hence the main issue was that there was no proper rehabilitation for the displaced wildlife and tribal folks

Pong dam
Situated at: beas river in himachal pradesh in 1960. water was harnessed to irrigate rajasthan. Cause of conflict: out of 30,000 families uprooted, only 14,000 were considered eligible for allotment, as they were bonafide cultivators and for them 2.25 lakh acre of land was earmarked. And when asked that what happened to the rest 14,000 families, then there was no answer.

Tehri dam
Situated at: bhagirathi river in tehri town. Cause of conflict: The immediate effect of tehri dam would be on 10,000 residents of tehri town. And the rehabilitation was the burning issue. Issues on tehri dams geological stability: The Tehri dam is located in the Central Himalayan Seismic Gap, a major geologic fault zone. This region was the site of a 6.8 magnitude earthquake in October 1991, with an epicenter 500 kilometres (310 mi) from the location of the dam.

Bhakra nangal dam


Situated at: sutlej river in bhakra village in bilaspur village of himachal pradesh. Cause of conflict: It was constructed during 1950s and till now it has not been possible to rehabiliate even half of the persons displaced. Reduced water flow downstream during dry seasons and high water in the dam during unusual wet seasons are both current challenges.
