All bundled bars shall have padding or suitable banding that shall prevent 09-SAMSS-106 damage to the coating. (ASTM A775, Sec. 15.1) Sec. III.B All bundles of bars shall be lifted with a strong back, spreader bar, multiple supports, or a platform bridge to prevent bar-to-bar abrasion from sagging bars or bundles. (ASTM A775, Sec. 15.1) Coated bars shall not be dropped or dragged along in transporting them from storage to their location on site nor while placing them in their final position in the concrete formwork. (ASTM A775, Sec. 15.1) If coated reinforcing steel is to be stored outdoors for more than two months, they shall be protected from direct sunlight, salt spray and weather. (ASTM A775, Sec. 15.2) Storing FBE Steel Bars The date FBE coated reinforcing steel goes outdoors without protective 09-SAMSS-106 covering shall be recorded on the identification tags on the bundled steel. Sec. III.B (ASTM A775, Sec. 15.2) FBE reinforcing steel bars shall be provided with opaque polyethylene sheeting or other suitable protective covering when they are to be stored outdoors for longer than 2 months time. (ASTM A775, Sec. 15.2) The covering shall be secured adequately and allow air circulation around the bars to minimize condensation under the covering. If circumstances require storing coated steel reinforcing bars outdoors for more than two months, protective storage measures shall be 09-SAMSS-106 implemented to protect the material from sunlight, salt spray and weather Sec. III.B exposure. (ASTM A775, Sec. 15.2) Preservation of FBE Coating on Steel Bars The maximum amount repair to damaged coating shall not exceed 2% within any 300mm length of a bar; This does not include bar ends. ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA All damaged areas of coating shall be repaired with patching material. (ASTM A775, Sec. 11.2) When immersion-type vibrators are used to consolidate concrete around epoxy-coated steel reinforcing bars, the vibrators should be equipped with rubber or nonmetallic vibrator heads. (ASTM A775, Sec. XI.3.15) When coated bars are mechanically cut the sheared ends shall be coated with patching material. (ASTM A775, Sec. 11.4) Protective storage measures shall be implemented to protect materials from sunlight, salt spray and weather exposure. (ASTM A775, Sec. 15.2) FBE coated reinforcement shall not be flame-cut. ACI-301. Para 3.3.2.9:
