Even lighter and more compact than its predecessors, the BR-S422U offers greatly reduced power consumption, quick-response recording start, optional plug-in time code generator, built-in AEQ, and 4-channel audio with two linear channels and two Hi-Fi channels. Dock it with one of JVC's advanced cameras to form a lightweight, low-cost camcorder offering a level of convenience, performance, and mobility that bulky 3/4-inch portable systems simply cannot match. New compact, lightweight design The BR-S422U not only delivers picture and sound quality comparable to 3/4-inch, it gives you much greater mobility. At only seven pounds (not including tape and battery), it's the lightest dockable recorder in its class and its new streamlined compact design makes it easier to carry and less susceptible to breakage. Dockable with mostJVC KY-series cameras, the BR-S422U offers you a level of convenience and mobility that no other mid-Ievel recorder can match. Power consumption has also been reduced so you'll have to change batteries less often. And, since the BR-S422U uses full-size S-VHS tapes, up to 2 hours of recording is possible on a single tape. High-quality S-VHS pictures To provide pictures with detail and clarity, the BR-S422U incorporates JVC's advanced S-VHS technology for highquality pictures with resolution of more than 400 lines. In addition, a 62-mm standard drum is used to ensure the best possible picture performance with minimal jitter. VHS recording is also possible Quick-Response recording start and Quick AEF In ENG applications, a few seconds can mean the difference between getting a shot and missing it altogether. To make sure you can start shooting the action as soon as it starts, the BR-S422U features a newly-developed quick-response recording start mechanism. You'll be able to go from the RecPause mode to the Record mode in barely a second and half with no distortion between takes. And if you want even faster response time, a newly-developed Quick AEF will start the recorder in less than half a second.

Optional Plug-in Time Code Generator To facilitate program-logging and simplify post-production, a plug-in Time Code Generator board (SA-R200U) capable of recording SMPTE-standard LTC or VITC time codes is available. Thanks to the BR-S422U's new rationalized design, the time code generator can easily be installed inside the recorder so there are no bulky extensions, and no significant additional weight. User bits featuring an internal real-time clock are provided for recording of additional data. 2-Channel Hi-Fi and 2-Channel Linear Audio To assure maximum audio flexibility and top-quality sound, the BR-S422U features two Hi-Fi audio channels and two linear audio channels. Using two rotary FM-audio heads to record Hi-Fi audio signals on a separate layer of tape, the Hi-Fi VHS system assures superb sound quality with extended frequency response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz, a dynamic range of 80 dB, and virtually no wow and flutter. Dolby B* noise reduction is provided for the linear channels Professional-standard XLR balanced audio connectors To maintain the highest level of audio performance, balanced XLR audio input connectors are provided. Input levels are switchable between -60 dB and +4 dB to allow connection of professional microphones for interviews and other applications. LCD audio level meter with independent level controls A backlit LCD audio level meter with independent bars for channels 1 and 2 together with four audio recording level controls permit convenient monitoring of either the Hi-Fi or normal audio tracks, as well as separate level adjustment. A three-position switch allows you to monitor the sound from each channel individually or both at the same time. A switchable ALC is provided. Level adjustment is still possible even with the limiter on Rotary erase heads A pair of rotary erase heads are attached to the head drum to ensure clean, high-quality pictures in re-recording. Byerasing previously-recorded material field-by-field, the rotary earse heads eliminate color beats and ensure smooth transitions.

Built-in AEQ generator To ensure clear, sharp pictures all the time -even with overused tapes or worn-out video heads, the BR-S422U incorporates an automatic equalizer to prevent deterioration of the luminance signal Built-in loudspeaker A side-mounted speaker allows audio monitoring in playback or recording without the need for headphones. Audible warnings are also emitted from this speaker. REC REVIEW function This convenient function lets you check playback quality without disengaging the record-pause mode. When engaged, the tape rewinds briefly, plays back the last few seconds of the scene you've just recorded, then re-enters the record-pause mode. You can check picture quality through the viewfinder and sound via the built-in speaker or earphone.
