1 Resistor :-The main function of resistor is to reduce the flow of current. Resistor have a color code by which we can find out its value. Resistance is measured in . In some application we want the different value of resistance to see the effect of varying resistance on working of resistor, In these application we use variable resistor e.g. Rheostat, potentiometer.

2 Capacitor :-capacitor generally consists of a dielectric sandwiched between two metal plates. When any electric field is applied to it , the charges in dielectric get polarize and we have a built in electric field. Thus capacitor stores the energy in terms of electric field.

3 Inductor :-Inductor is also a passive element like resistor and capacitor . the main difference between inductor and capacitor is that inductor stores the energy in form of magnetic field.

4 Transformer :- transformer consist of a primary coil and a secondary coil. It is generally used to step up or step down the value of AC voltage. The value of V1 and V2 depends on number of turns in primary and secondary winding. 5 Diode:- diode is one of the important and basic component in electronics there are many variants of diode exist e.g. P-n junction diode, zener diode, LED, photo diode, tunnel diode. junction diode is generally use as switch ,because it support the flow of current in forward direction and oppose the flow of current in reverse direction. It is also used as wave shaping circuits. Zener diode is highly doped than the normal diode and is mainly used for voltage regulation (when works in reverse break down region). Tunnel diode is much more highly doped than zener diode(around 1impurity atom in 103 atoms). LED and Photo diode are use for optical applications they use direct band gap semiconductors(GaAs) instead of indirect band gap semiconductor (Si,Ge).

6 Transistor :- Transistor is normally a three terminal devices(Exceptions exist). There are various types of transistor like BJT,UJT, FETs ,and these transistors can perform variety of operations like amplification, switching, oscillation, digital logic implementation . They are also used in multivibrator, wave generators, performing, various arithmetic operation(in form of an opamp.) BJT is the most popular transistor for amplification. It has 3 terminals :- Emitter, base, and collector. FETs also has 3 terminals :- source, gate, drain FET has very high input impedance and these transistor have best switching characteristics.
