Sunnats and Aadaab of Eating

This entry is part 1 of 4 in the series Sunnats and Aadaab of Eating 1. One should sit and eat on the floor. 2. 3. 4. One should spread out a cloth (dastarkhaan) on the floor before eating. Wash both hands up to the wrist before eating. Recite the duaa before eating:

In the name of Allah Taala, and upon the blessings of Allah Taala. 5. Recite the duaa aloud as a reminder to others to recite the duaa as well. 6. If one forgets to recite the duaa in the beginning then one can recite:

In the name of Allah Taala in the beginning and the end. This entry is part 2 of 4 in the series Sunnats and Aadaab of Eating 1. Eat and drink with the right hand. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Eat the food from the side that is in front of you. If a morsel of food falls down, pick it up, clean it and eat it. Do not lean and eat. Do not find fault with the food. Remove your shoes before eating.

This entry is part 3 of 4 in the series Sunnats and Aadaab of Eating 1. When eating, sit with either both knees on the ground, or one knee raised, or both knees raised. 2. Clean the plate and the other utensils thoroughly after eating. By doing this, the utensil makes duaa for ones forgiveness. 3. Recite the duaa after eating:

any effort or striving from my side. This entry is part 4 of 4 in the series Sunnats and Aadaab of Eating 1. First remove the food before getting up and leaving. When removing the dastarkhaan, the following duaa should be read: All praise is due to Allah Taala. Such praises that are plentiful, pure and full of blessings. O our Rabb, (we are not removing this food) regarding it to be sufficient, or bidding it farewell (forever), or expressing no need for it. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. After meals, wash both the hands and gargle the mouth. Whilst eating, one should not remain completely silent. One should eat with three fingers if possible. (i.e. the middle finger, index finger and thumb). One should not eat very hot food. Do not blow on the food. After eating, one should lick his fingers.
