Book Parade Well done to our Book Parade winners. All the children who took part make a huge effort (as well as their Mums and Dads??!!) and the event was a great success. Thanks to those parents who attended we hope you enjoyed coming.
Japanese Curriculum Tests for April 2014 From April 2014, we will be assessing children on a regular basis using standard Japanese Curriculum Tests as follows: (In English!) G1 Maths G2 Maths G3 Maths, Science and Social Studies G4 Maths, Science and Social Studies G5 Maths and Science G6 Maths and Science These will be sent home and will be an excellent way to show parents that children are covering the Japanese Curriculum and also understanding what is being taught. It will also help teaching staff at MIS assess more clearly what individual children know and do not know. (As parents hopefully are aware, we have Review Weeks built into each term, where we go over areas of the curriculum that we feel children may need to study once more.)

Grade 1 Trip to Sakatagaike Park. G1 had a great time looking at the seasons and how they affect nature's growth at Sakatagaike Park near Narita. As well as seeing kingfishers, cormorants, and turtles they had a fantastic time looking at the facilities provided and even tried some out, like the play park and the giant roller slide. The trip back to MIS was a quiet one on the buschildren were so tired!
Milk Cartons Kindergarten are looking for even more milk cartons to use in class. If parents want to help and bring some in, we are accepting them till the end of February! We only have 900 apparently at the moment!!!
Pre-School Information about Preschool for April 2014 is now available on the school web site. The deadline for signing up is Feb 28th. Grade 4 Chess Championships Well done to Kota Chiba for winning the Grade 4 Chess Championships this season. In a nine round lunch time competition, he managed an impressive 8-1 win/loss record beating Kosei from G4Y with his 7-2 record and Misha from G4G with his 6-3 record. Mr. Hall will now be planning an Elementary competition planned for the start of next year. Watch this space!

School Reports/Parents Evenings As parents know, on March 4th and 5th we are holding Parents Evenings. Before that, you will receive your childs School Report and we hope that this will help in giving more information for you before you sit down and talk with the teachers. As usual, although the time for meetings is relatively brief, staff are always happy to meet with parents at other times if needed. Grade 6 Placements This time of year is always very stressful for our Grade 6 children. Perhaps made even more stressful by having to delay the Grade 6 Residential Trip for this week due to the weather! However, it is good news that they have now finished the worry of finding out which school they will be going to in April 2014. The general results will be published on our webs site
Orientation for new Parents/Children Today we had many visitors to the schoolparents of children who are joining in April 2014. We are not sure of the numbers for April yet but as usual, we expect more children to be attending the school than ever before. As always, class lists and names of teachers will be given to parents towards the end of this term.

Mr. Roebuck It is with great sadness that I would like to inform parents that Mr. Roebuck will be leaving MIS from the end of February. His last day of employment will be on February 28th. I would like to take this opportunity to thank him for all he has done since the school opened. I cannot adequately explain to parents the impact he has made at MIS so much of what he has done has been behind the scenes. From the days before children first attended our school he has, with pride; ensured that the physical well being of the school is of paramount importance. He has supported staff at the school. Children, I know, will also miss him once he leaves. We wish Daniel the very best of luck in whatever he does and he will, of course always be a part of MIS. Thank you Daniel.
