Reflection RPH_2
Day : Tuesday Date : 18 th March 2014
The year 1 Arif is the first class among all seven classes in Year, therefore most of the pupils in the class have higher level of proficiency. However, as I did my lesson today, the pupils barely understand my simple instructions in the target language. I assumed that they might be scared because for them all are new. The school, the environment, the teachers and the lessons. As I went through the lesson and proceeded with my lesson plan, the pupils are likely more responsive then they were before. It times, I had to use Grammar Translation Method (GTM) to explain some difficult words to them. At the same time, I introduced new vocabulary to the pupils.
Initially, the designed activities for Year 1 Arif are meant for higher level of proficiency. Thus, as the pupils in the class are mostly intermediate learners, I have to lower down the level of difficulties to cater their level of proficiency. I realized that it is better not to assume their strengths and weakness. Though the pupils are streamed based on their level, there are a few pupils in the class who are weaker than the other. Thus, I need to prepare a remedial as well as en enrichment activity to the pupils.
Overall, the lesson meets the learning objectives. The pupils in the class responded very well to my instructions from time to time. Minor disruptive behaviors did occur, however I was managed to take control of the classroom.
