20 Achievers and Alumni
Education is more than achieving paper qualifications solely to fit into a future comfortable
job in a faceless corporation. Students are not commodities to be churned out of an
industrial assembly line to fit into a larger machine. Instead, they are individuals with passion,
talents and intelligence. Where do you see yourself in five years' time? Will you be just
another salaried person, waking up early, getting dressed in strange clothes that you buy for
work and driving through traffic in a car that you are paying loan instalments on just to get
to the job you need to pay for the clothes and the car, and the house or apartment you leave
vacant all day so you can afford to live in it?
At HELP, I believe that university education is much more than the acquisition of job-specific
knowledge. As human beings we are not programmable computer components. Education
also encompasses the development of communication skills, personality, curiosity, attitudes
and creativity. Far more important than providing mere information is to spark a passionate
interest that will help students lead truly meaningful lives and bring value to the community
of which they are a part. An excellent university experience will help students learn who they
are, to discover a larger purpose for their lives and eventually to live as better human beings.
