THE LAMB OF GOD

When you look at the front of the sanctuary, youll see a large banner
depicting the Lamb of God, holding the banner of victory. Victory over
what? And how was the victory achieved? A lamb is essentially
defenseless, used for its wool and its meat. In the Hebrew Scriptures, it was
used as a sacrifice to God. No one fears the lamb, or honors it for anything
other than its use. And yet this is the very symbol of the most transformative,
life-giving, life-restoring image of Christianity. Jesus, the Lamb of God, who
takes away the sin of the world. How? By non-violence, by integrity, by
being willing to lay down His life for the lives of others.
Throughout Lent, well be exploring what all this means as we delve into
the different images of the Lamb of God in the Hebrew and Greek
Scriptures.
What might be interesting is if you would also come to the Thursday Night
Lenten Series on Forgiveness, very practical, hands-on workshops on how
to actually forgive someone that is weighing on you. Compare your own
experiences of the process of forgiveness with the images of the Lamb
who brings the reconciliation of the whole world. Are there parallels with
your experience of reconciliation and the vision given to us in Scripture?
Come on Sundays from 9:30-10:30 am and Thursdays from 6:30-8:30pm.
And bring your curious friends!

Lent is the Christian season of getting straight with other

people- getting straight with God. Our Jewish sisters and
brothers have one day to get straight- Yom Kippur, or the
Day of Atonement. Christians have 6 weeks; it just takes
us a little longer! One thing many of us have to get
straight about is resentment and an unforgiving spirit.
Every Thursday evening during Lent (now through March
26), well be working on practical ways of forgiving others
and ourselves. This wont be just talking about forgiveness;
this will concentrate on the hard work OF forgiveness, so
that at the end of Lent maybe well actually be different
people. If we open ourselves up for it, it can happen.

PALM SUNDAY MARCH 29

One of the hardest things to forgive is betrayal- which is

exactly what Jesus faces from his friends in the last week
of his earthly life. Betrayal is never done by your enemies;
it is called betrayal precisely because it is done by our
friends, our loved ones, the people we have trusted. And
these are the ones who betrayed Jesus to His death.
Why? What was going on in the heads of Peter and
Judas when they turned their backs on the One they
loved? Come and explore their hearts, and perhaps our
own, in the Palm Sunday worship service on March 29.

chaotic and disrupted situations of our worldmaking a
positive contribution. Through sustained partnerships and
empowering response made possible by the United
Church of Christs One Great Hour of Sharing offering and
designated giving, you are changing lives.
One Great Hour of Sharing ministries are active in
communities for the long term. These are spiritual
practices of radical hospitality for the well-being of all.
Lives are changed through meeting immediate needs of
people in the most vulnerable situations of their lives
those impacted by disasters, uprooted by violence or
experiencing poverty.
Through One Great Hour of Sharing, children have
clothes, elders have food and church congregations
have an immediate purpose. Education, vocational
training, and organic farming practices all empower
people for long-term vibrant sustainability. One Great
Hour of Sharing ministries address root causes that disrupt
peoples lives and communities in the first place.

RESULTS
Our annual collection for the
Food Pantry was delayed a
week due to the snow storm on
February 1st, but that did not
curb the kids enthusiasm as
they announced the CLEAR winner of the competition
to be the Green Bay Packers who should have been
participating!! 103 items were collected for the KM Food
Pantry.....so, the hungry in our area are the real winners.

Good Earth Church of the Divine
Singing Bowl

A correction to the Singing Bowl total collected for Family

Promise in December: $575.51. So far, $113.18 has been
collected for this quarters Singing Bowl charity- Doctors
Without Borders. Your donations through the Singing Bowl
will continued to go to this mission through March.
Not a day goes by without a new story about another
Ebola eruption. Now it's Freetown in Sierra Leone. But
Doctors Without Borders is there serving the poorest
people in just one clinic. And in places where the Ebola
virus is somewhat under control, Doctors Without Borders
say a loss of vigilance would jeopardize progress. Thank
you for your Singing Bowl donations.
Please stop at the kiosk in the center of the Gathering
Area and see the letter of thanks from the chaplain at
the Veterans' Administration Hospital. The veteran bags
that were filled by you with toiletries, warm socks, warm
clothes and candy were distributed and greatly
appreciated.
Our next Social Concerns meeting is March 8th, right after
church. Please consider joining our group- there is no big
time commitment.

MISSIONS OF EMMANUEL
Family Promise of Western Waukesha
County

One more family graduated from our program. The

mother found a cozy apartment in the area and is all set
to welcome her baby son into her life. February 22 to
March 1 was our second rotation for hosting families for
Family Promise. We served a mother with a four year old
son, a mother with a three year old daughter and an
expectant couple.
Thanks to all who contributed in various ways to make
these families welcomed.
Please check the bulletin board in the west hallway to
find information regarding volunteer opportunities and
training sessions to be held soon. (Just a reminder that no
training is necessary if you want to bring food but if you
stay to serve or perform any of the other tasks during our
host week, training is needed. Volunteering at the Day
Center can be done with or without training.)

Dear Friends at Emmanuel

UCC,
We celebrated Dr. Kings
birthday by using the large
double screens on the rear
wall of our barn home, for the
first time, projecting his I Have
a Dream speech in full. Part
of the service of prayer was to
share personal experiences of racial bias that we had
individually seen, and to reflect on progress made, and
need for further wideness of understanding in our times. It
was the first of our Program Sundays, a new initiative
launched by our Advisory Council. That was a powerful
Sunday, despite bitter snowy weather outside. All
involved thought it was well worth the $50 extra charge
to use the large double screens for a significant
experience.
Like Emmanuel UCC, we have been confronted with
the winter weather, more it
seems
than
last
year.
Nevertheless, we keep moving
forward, and on Sunday,
February 15th, we had a
burning of palms and blessing
of ashes to honor the tradition
of Ash Wednesday and the
ASH WEDNESDAY
beginning
of the
Lenten
Controlled Burn
Season. Twelve-year old Sage
Hudec, (turning 13 this week!) helped burn the palms
from last year in a safety dish, and bless the pastor! This
was a touching service, during which we shared stories of
burning away in order to make room for something
even more lovely. We used the example of a controlled
burn, designed to renew the face of the earth for spring
flowers.
We are busy planning for our Spring Sacred Art
Exhibition, which will feature a fantastic creative display
of recycled art. Just one illustration will help pique your
interest in what can be done with wasted industrial
plastic, turning something that had
been toxic rubbish material into
something of stunning beauty.
We are also anticipating our
next Advisory Council meeting,
and the joyful collaboration of
those first seven pillars for
Flutterby Kimono made of waste

Weather-related closings:
Our greatest concern is for the health and
well-being of each Emmanuel Family
member. Occasionally that will result in the
decision to cancel worship due to weather.
Should winter storms cause us to cancel
worship, you will find the cancellation posted on Milwaukee TV
channels 4 and 6 (also on their websites) and the churchs
Facebook page. Members will also be notified of future
cancellations via email from Pastor Nansis or Donnas home
computers.

ORDER SCRIP ON March 1

Participating in the SCRIP program is the
EASIEST way you can add to Emmanuels
financial health. Gift cards are purchased
(see list on the kiosk- virtually anything you
need is available on the list). Emmanuel
keeps a percentage of the value of each card but YOU
PAY FACE VALUE! Lets make 2015 our most profitable
SCRIP year to date! Place orders with Laurie Buckett. The
cards are delivered each month the Sunday after they
are ordered.

We invite all the ladies of Emmanuel to attend our
monthly Adult Fellowship meetings, held the second
Tuesday of the month from 1-3 PM. Its a time of
conversation, laughs and enjoying delightful desserts!

Cookbooks! In 1998 Adult Fellowship
solicited recipes from the membership and
put together an Emmanuel cookbook. They
have been sold out for many years, but due to
popular demand, we have reprinted them
and have included new recipes submitted by
Adult Fellowship members. The reprinted
cookbook is available for $7. If you already have the
cookbook, you can purchase just the Addendum which
includes the new recipes for $2.
Brooms! Made from 100% broom corn, these are a
favorite of area barber shops and anyone else who has
tried them out. They sell for $10, which is substantially
cheaper than you can buy them elsewhere.

This years theme: Still Changing Lives continues and
expands upon the work of the 2014 Annual Meeting,
which encouraged the formation of collaborative groups
of two or more congregations designed to create and
implement life changing work in their communities. This
years meeting will revisit the progress made by groups
formed out of the visions of 2014, and encourage other
congregations to join in those efforts as they move
forward in 2015. We will also recognize our current
support for ministries that are Changing Lives on a daily
basis in the communities where we live and serve.
Emmanuel will need two delegates to represent our

delivers the meals on a rotating basis every four weeks.

aluminum & other precious metals for our Precious Metals
Recycling Program...Keep those donations coming! Place
your aluminum cans and other precious metals (brass,

Its no secret that Emmanuel is full of compassionate,
caring people who are willing to lend a hand,
so keep that in mind if a need arises in your life
or in the life of someone you know in the
community.

providing seasonal help in your home, like

clean up in response to a natural or other kind of
disaster (flooding, etc.)

When we become aware of a need, we send out a mass
email or make calls asking for volunteers to help.
We cant help if we are not aware of the need, so PLEASE
keep this in mind. Dont let your pride get in the way of
askingwe all need a helping hand from time to time.
